本篇An Aristotelian Analysis of Lone Scherfig's An Education—澳洲代写讲了孤独的Scherfig的教育有它的阴谋和它的主角,既包含悲剧和漫画元素。

Lone Scherfig's An Education has its plot and its main character that contain both a tragic and a comic element. It certainly has its downfall when the beautiful, smart, yet naive young student Jenny chose a life with the con man David instead of a life she is going to pursue at Oxford, and its upward side when eventually, Jenny gets her life back after all that turmoil she went through because of David. The movie also sends of a mixture of both tragic and comic messages to its audience including not to be proud and naive like Jenny, and be hopeful and courageous like Jenny. Therefore, due to the mixture of elements of tragedy and comedy, it is very difficult to define this movie simply according to the strict Aristotelian classification of tragedy and comedy.
On one level, it is definitely a tragedy because the heroine, Jenny, should be considered as a high character who is simply a smart, hardworking, and intelligent student at school, the kind of "model student" the audience all want to become at some point during their schooling. Therefore seeing her throwing all her years of schooling away, just to be with the man who is deceptive after all really is heartbreaking for all of the audience. On the night when Jenny and her parents were all anxiously waiting for David to come in and tell them he is married, all they heard was the engine starting and him driving away. This must have been the worst feeling she could ever felt, which composes most tragic moment of the whole movie.
Yet on the other level, this movie cannot be entirely categorized as a tragedy according to Aristotelian standards because after the tragic moment knowing she was deceived, it is also Jenny who picked up her courage to pursue school for one extra year, and got accepted to Oxford University in the end. She has certainly triumphed, through hard work and courage though, unlike a Aristotelian comedic character who achieves triumph without hardship. This ending brings the movie from a tragic and heartbreaking moment to a happy and desirable ending for the audience. So it certainly has some elements of comedy in it.
Considering the heroine of the movie, Jenny, one can also realize that she is a mixture of both a high and low character which exists in an Aristotelian tragedy and comedy respectively. For example, Jenny has a tragic human flaw that leads to her defeat of being deceived by David, which is her naiveness. She should not have easily believed this guy and let him charmed his way into her heart. There were warnings before when Jenny saw David stole a painting from a house, but Jenny willfully chose to ignore it, as questioned by David's friend when she came asking about David after the night he drove away. But she also has the unexpected appearance of human resources that leads to her triumph in getting accepted to Oxford, which is her English teacher Ms. Stubbs, who believes in Jenny's talent and never gives up on her, even after what happened with her and David.
An Education, the movie's title, is a pun that means both Jenny's schooling in order for her to get in Oxford, and her lesson learned from being deceived by David. The movie does not show great permanent suffering of Jenny because in the end she harvested her happy ending by being accepted to Oxford, therefore it is not completely a tragedy. But it does involve her profound naiveness and blind trust in David that contributes to her downfall of being engaged to a married man and a thief. The movie is not about Jenny's practical success without great ethical virtue as a typical comedy, for she does put in a lot of effort to pursue her happy ending. But it ends from a movement from adversity to prosperity, which is a character of typical comedy.
An Education evokes the audience's pathos for they will feel pain for Jenny who comes from a good family which treats her education and future very seriously. As for the audience's feelings for Jenny, it can be both pity and empathy, which are also a representation of both the tragic and comic elements. The audience will feel pity for Jenny when she was deceived by David, and worse when she met with David's wife who was accustomed to David's constant cheating on her. The audience will empathize with Jenny when she decided to pick up school again, and asked for help from her English teacher, for this is certainly an act of courage and hope.

In the end, the audience will probably go home reflecting on the naive things they have done when they are as young as Jenny, and wish how they could have plucked up their courage to do things in the right way in the end. Therefore the movie has achieved its purpose in both sending off a warning to people that they should not be so naive in depending their whole life on others instead of themselves, and an encouragement that it is never to late to pick up wherever on one has left off and start all over. The audience will feel that they might not be that naive to easily trust a guy like David, nor strong enough to pick up her courage and pursue her life again after the tragedy. They will be counseled as neither to be too proud of themselves nor too desperate for the world after the hope is seemingly lost. All of these feelings are achieved in one movie that has both tragic and comic elements. In conclusion, The Education is not technically a tragedy or a comedy according to Aristotelian's Poetics. Instead, it has achieved both genres on different parts of the movie, namely tragic in the first half till when Jenny was deceived by David, and comic in the second half till the end when she was accepted to Oxford and got her education back.
