The group of children has been vulnerable, who is considered as the target for many people with bad intentions. A number of backward countries even see violence against children as the norm. Some countries with good visions have issued relevant laws and regulations to protect children’ s safety and health. The UN, as an important organization in the world, has launched a wave of campaigns to protect human rights and save those children who live under miserable violence. The purpose of this essay is to demonstrate and communicate the functions of the UN’ s campaign “end violence against children”. The large title——“Dear world leaders, every five minutes, somewhere in the world, a child dies as a result of violence” indicates the UN’s aim of this campaign: to crack down on violence or other infringement against children (UNICEF, 2016).

The campaign “end violence against children” is launched by the United Nations, with its intention to deliver appropriate and full-fledged defense to the rights of children around the world. The objective of this campaign seems obvious: to alleviate and prevent violence against children. Some children around the world are undergoing great ordeals owing to this inhumane practice. To build a peaceful world of enduring harmony and benevolence, it is necessary that statesmen in the world should take effective and immediate measures to safeguard children, which is the objective of “end violence against children”.

Although a notable number of organizations or governments have issued many proposals and policies to protect children from dangers, some children, who should have led a free and happy childhood, have been suffering from serious violence instead. The whole picture of children living security seems not to be positive and preferential for children. At this time, there are a great quantity of children live under terrible physical or mental pressure, which poses an enormous threat to their long-term development. Even in the middle of such serious situation, the UN activates the campaign to call for all countries in the world to pay efforts in improving living conditions of children, which means the UN has a long, hard journey to go. Besides domestic violence, far more children are facing changes in physical environments such war, flood or a fire, causing great damage to their life (Lalor, 2013). Apart from that, many little girls in some countries such as India, are suffering from child marriage where they have to tolerate domestic violence and are resigned to their husbands who are much older than them. Those girls are doomed to lead a miserable and degraded life during their lifetime (Kulkarni, 1994). All of those mentioned phenomenon against the rights and well-being of children create a tough task for UNICEF.

It is fortunate for children under violence that UNICEF has launched the profound and beneficial campaign around the world, such as India, Mongolia, Japan, Brazil, South Africa and so forth. The wide range of campaign bases can develop a complete and impartial well-being contribution to all children with equality, justice and fairness. UNICEF serves as a good Samaritan who delivers benefits and care to all children under great threats caused by physical, emotional, psychological and sexual mistreatment as well as neglect (UNICEF, 2016).

The UN’ s campaign “end violence against children” spare no effort to protect each poor children in agony, without any preference for gender, age, or religion. The only thing UNICEF pays much attention to is poor children’ s living conditions, physical and mental development, health, food and education for all those factors affect children’ s future and even the world’ s future.

To protect children under violence in the world, UNICEF has taken a long list of measures to counter the current situation. For example, UNICEF, working together with UNFPA calls on governments and partner organizations to support the new Global Programme and help eliminate child marriage by 2030 (Xinhua, 2016), as a significant step made to ease the tension. Besides, UNICEF has sent adequate volunteers to Switzerland help erase violence against girls and boys. Many children who used to struggle with their parents’ violence now have someone to turn to and solve their difficulties, finding a shoulder to cry on (UNICEF, 2016). In addition to that, UNICEF has made many policies to protect children in extremely underdeveloped countries such as South Africa, a country hit by high risk of AIDS and backward medical care system. UNICEF has done related research on this highly critical issue and called on the government to notice the problem, saving a sheer volume of children from physical, sexual, emotional or economic violence (UNICEF, 2016). In summary, UNICEF is taking comprehensive and flexible measures to address violence against children in an all-round way. Focusing on different national conditions, UNICEF is positioned to work together with the local government and monitor its operation. It has been proved that all policies UNICEF has taken have worked. Many children have their problems solved and many projects or institutions have established to deal with violence against children. On the whole, UNICEF has made great and profound progress in its fight against the inhumane phenomenon. It enable numerous and increasing children shake off violence in various forms such as poverty, parents’ mistreatment, sexual abuse, etc.

It cannot be denied that UNICEF has made marvelous contributions to children’ s well-being in the world. But the campaign’ s shortcoming lies in its unsound distribution of assistance across the world. It is obvious that the number of assistance organizations is not adequate in South Africa who needs UNICEF’ s aid the most. It must increase assistance in some countries with extremely serious situation to fulfill its functions.

The campaign “end violence against children” is a humane and benevolent action with wide assistance around the world. Despite its weakness of inadequate assistance in some countries, the gross benefits it brings to the world can not be neglected. A lot of children have come out of the shadow of violence thanks to its efforts.
