Answer questions about BWB

2015-06-20 来源: 51due教员组 类别: 更多范文

1.  How well positioned for future success is BWB, given the changing market environment?  How sustainable are its competitive advantages in the bookselling industry?  How threatening are its disadvantages?
For the changing market environment, increasing people receive better opportunities to receive high education in university. Therefore, BWB should focus on the university students and explore this market as their main target via providing the university textbooks.  For the sustainable advantages,it provide more stages for the students to exchange their books in this website , which might be inexpensive and environmently- friendly through saving papers and labors. However, many professors do not force them to use the paper book . Instead, e-books with lower price is also allowed in class. That is to say, students just need to pay less compared with the paper book brought in the BWB. Therefore, less people opt to afford such textbooks in the BWB.

2.  Why isn’t BWB realizing a price premium for its social mission?  What should the company do to achieve this goal?
Price is a main element for the customers when they choose books in different stores no matter in physical or online stores. The lower price means more attractive and competitive in the book market. Moreover, increasing people prefer the e-books due to the lower price . Therefore, without the low costs, it is impossible to operate well in the modern society.  For the solutions to achieve such goal, there are two main methods. Firstly, lower the costs of the company via improving the efficiency and effectively so that the lower price for customers enjoy more possibility. Secondly, doing some survey is necessary to acquire some other company’s selling conditions, including sales, prices and selling strategies.

3.  How does Amazon’s pricing impact BWB’s pricing strategy?   How does this affect its communication & eventual success of the social mission?
BWB used to sell books on Amazon for some times: however, it created its own stores to provide  more services. Therefore, the price of Amazon , to some extent, was the base of BWB as the reference , including the price ,model and strategy. This experience must impact its communication as the similar previous operating model.

4.  Which market segment(s) should BWB target as customers for purchasing its books?  Which segment(s) should BWB target as donors for its book inventory?
Market segments for customers might for the undergraduates and graduates who would like to pay for the books but do not think it is worthy at all. However, market segments for donors might for the poverty areas where students are eager for books while they  barely afford any books at all. Only in this way, they might enjoy the same right to receive the reading right with the rich opponent . Some related programs includes “Book  for Book” “Books for Africa””Room to Read”.

5.  How can BWB better “complete the full circle” with its constituents?
BWB should broad itself images via media by reporting it over and over again and obtain reputation, which force them to better the society. Additionally, more programs should be designed such as the “Book for Book “and “Book for Africa” to improve the fame . In this way, more people would opt BWB when they think about these beneficial things.

6.  Should Better World Books adjust its model for providing funds to its non-profit partners?  What are the ramifications of such changes?

BWB should providing funds to its non-profit partners because its scale is enough to provide a better opportunity to change in the poverty areas ,which  lack educational resources and funds. Also,it could establish a good fame and image to attract more people in this website.

7.  How does BWB’s “not just for profit” mission and business model both enable and constrain its potential?
“not just for profit” means it also shows its care for the needy areas so that more and more students could receive education due to this . That is to say, these students might become the potential customers or just do the reward for BWB. By contrast, it also might increase its costs to some extent because it is commonly believed that these receivers just receive the books without any payment.

8.  DETERMINE BWB’s possible strategies (as suggested/discussed in the case study) for improving its communication of the social mission.  What are the strengths and weaknesses of each possible strategy?  Which do you think would be more successful for BWB?  Why?
The first one: low-price strategy.
Advantages: it is competitive  and attractive compared with other company
Disadvantages:less profits
The second one:public relationship strategy
Advantages:establish a good business image in public
Disadvantages:improve the costs

The second one might be better. This is partly because it enjoy potential to obtain more benefits in the long run even though some sacrifice today might be necessary. Only the good image in public that creates better effects for the customers which might lead to the more readers and customers.
