* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Ethics Game * * Stacy Rader * * University of Phoenix * * May 21, 2013 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * What were the ethical issues presented in the simulation' * * In the simulations the issues to be addressed were sexual harassment and falsifying data for a report. “The Mysterious Rose”, addressed potential sexual harassment when an employee continued to send another employee flowers. “The Cold Feet” pertained to falsifying data on a report that could affect the general public. Using the ethical lens to come up with different perspectives from each dilemma by determining who the stakeholders were and what the best solution for those at high risk would be. * * What decision-making steps did you take to ethically address these issues' * * In order to make decisions steps should be followed in order to ensure the best possible decision is made. While gathering data to make those decisions it is important to be attentive and to be reasonable. The stakeholders in each decision are determined by who may have the greater risk and what affects the decision will have on the company. When an ethical issue is presented to an employer it does not always just affect that main participant in that issue, it can affect the entire company and the customers it caters to. Even though protecting the company is in the best interest of the company, it may not always be the most moral and ethical route to take in solving a problem. * * * What ethical perspectives, or lenses, did you use to make your decisions in the simulation' * * * * The ethical perspectives that were used for the decision-making process were based on the options that were provided by the scenarios in the simulation. The rights/responsibilities, results, relationships, and the reputation lens are the four options that can be used to solve a problem. Throughout the simulation making a certain decision led to the future choices that had to be made once all information was made available. The different types of lens help to determine what kind of problem that is present and the correct manner in which to handle it in the best interest of the shareholders. * * * * How did these ethical perspectives, or lenses, influence your decisions' * * The different ethical perspectives helped me to see where I may be making a bad choice by pointing out the reasons why some options were better than others. Also helping to understand who was the most important shareholder in each problem. For example in the case of the missing data the most important person would be the consumer that will end up with the final product that may not work as well as it was portrayed in the report. * * * How might concepts from this simulation relate to your workplace' * * The relationship lens is key in relating to my workplace. It can be difficult at times to distinguish between relationship and business associate especially when hard decisions have to be made. There is always the risk of hurting their trust or losing their friendship when you have to make a decision that will be in the best interest of the stakeholders of the problem. * * Reference The Mysterious Roses and Cold Feet.
