Ethics_and_Behavior_Differences

2013-11-13 来源: 类别: 更多范文

Ethics and Behavior Differences The word ethics is defined by Webster’s 21st Century Dictionary as “the standards of conduct adopted by professionals”. According to the Williams Assessment I am a person who tends to base ethical perspective on what is good to be rather than on what is good to do. I do not necessarily agree with that assessment perspective result. When doing the assessment I found quite a few of the questions difficult to answer. The assessment states I do not believe that it is enough to comply with some preset standards or principles of right and wrong to find the solution to a complex ethical dilemma. I will however agree with the assessment style results. I found the questions difficult to answer because I am a person who believes ethical decisions come mainly from individuals with good character and moral. Many of the assessment questions could have been answered with either or. I do believe there should be a standard of principles set for every environment. However I also believe those standards are met with more grace and ease if the individuals have a good sense of moral character. Ethics being standards of principle are developed for the purpose of obtaining good and equality for all individuals those standards may affect. It is not to say people with a less acceptable character cannot exhibit good ethical behavior; however I believe others involved may find the intention difficult to trust. In the situation of Kudler, I believe it would be beneficial if Kathy were to expand her overhead. It would provide some relief for her to care for the aspect of the business she thought she could trust the least in another person. Kathy should employ the relief of an accountant, an area manager, and individual store managers. Each position would require Kathy to develop a level of trust. An accountant would hold the largest responsibility to that trust. Due to the fact Kathy would trust her revenue to be accounted and distributed by another person; it would be that person who would have control over distribution of revenue as well as be accountable to its origination. The area manager would require a level of trust to hire qualified, experienced and either educated and or knowledgeable people to be the first contact with where the revenue begins. Some business owners may have a variety of reasons to start their own business. Those reasons may vary from a small locally owned “mom and pop shop” to a large corporation. I can assure the first reason of any individual to open a business is to offer a service that the person feels is either in demand or helping a community. With that reason is also the purpose of revenue. Many people may have great ideas regarding the service or products a community needs, but if that service or product is at a high expense, it will result in a decrease of revenue and possibly loss of business. Pricing is important because price is a critical ingredient in consumer evaluations of the product (Nickels, W.G., McHugh, J.M., McHugh, S.M., 2008) It is harder for a small locally owned mom and pop shop to produce high revenue due to the fact the business is many times based on a product or service not as desirable or affordable to the community as is to the business owner. In Kathy Kudler’s situation she feels she has product to offer that is high in demand. She feels she can offer this product at a desirable cost to the community. With that, she needs to allow an area manager to seek store managers that can find new ways to expand her ideas. It may be a wise choice to choose a store manager of a particular ethnicity particular to a store special. Such would be the case if her store offered an “oriental cuisine” class. It would be wise if the instructor or leader were of Asian descent. Leaders are increasingly confronted with the need to influence people from other cultures, and successful influence requires a good understand of these cultures (Yuki, G., 2008). They need to be experienced and knowledgeable of the products offered. They also need to be innovative with their ideas while being ethical in achieving the desired outcome. Store managers should be allowed to seek hourly employees. The hourly employees and the store manager will make up a team with the goal of achieving success in the desired revenue with the service or product offered. That team will need to have a certain level of trust among them and have characteristics complimenting each others. It is the store manager’s responsibility to remember ethical practices when determining who to hire. With a professional demeanor developed through good character, education, knowledge and experience, a store manager will not find it ethical to hire a friend or family member. In my opinion, which is somewhat different than the assessment makes of myself, it would be in Kathy Kudler’s best interest to obtain her goal by hiring an accountant that she feels a level of trust in, and an area manager that she has interviewed, researched and felt a level of comfort in to hire store managers. She would entrust her store managers to hire employees capable of providing good customer care and assist in expanding store growth and revenue. As I have stated, I do agree with the assessment of myself in saying there should be a set standard of ethics in the Kudler business. However I feel the best way to achieve all goals involved for the business is to begin with an overhead consisting of good moral character. References Yuki, Gary (2006).
