What does the peer reviewer gain from this activity' A benefit for the peer reviewer is that he or she becomes comfortable with giving feedback.
What are some drawbacks to peer reviewing' The peer reviewer may not be honest due to not wanting to hurt the other person's feelings or the peer reviewer may be malicious and give awful advice or the peer reviewer may not know what they are talking about.
What other method can you use to provide effective peer feedback' Effective peer feedback can only come when the reviewer is comfortable giving honest feedback. Peer who do not necessarily know each other are prone to give more thorough feedback.
