As an enthusiast of tourism, my three papers are all somehow in relation to my journeys. In my former papers, I talked about the first time I traveled to a different country without any families, the amazing journey I had in Utah and the history of skiing and snowboarding. In this paper, I summarize my experiences, feelings and knowledge I gained through my journeys since I came to U.S. As a conclusion, I give my personal hope at last.
Maybe there are fantasies telling you that it is amazing to spent time in a whole new country and explore all kinds of things. However, my trip told me it was not like that at all. As a high school student who had never left home before, the trip to America was extremely hard and long. I was totally alone since I had no friend and families in Buffalo. There were even few Chinese in my school. The first indelible trip I would like to share was the third day after I reached US. Sun went down, and everything was fine just like a normal day. Somehow I felt hungry. Unfortunately there was no food around the house, and I asked my host brother about the direction to the nearest place where I can get some junk food. He wrote me a direction on a piece of little paper, and I step outside, ran into this unfamiliar land by myself for the first time.
After about ten minutes, I realized I was going in a wrong way. Why did I keep walking? I asked myself this question and I could not find any answers. Maybe it was because I was lost but refused to admit it, or maybe it was because I just wanted to keep going.
I can still remember the road I walked down that day vividly. Right after I turned around the corner of the house, I saw a school, and it looked pretty fancy with a large parking area and two different entrances at front. Right besides it was a beautiful tennis field and another entrance which lead to the football field. Across the street from school was an old house with a huge yard. Two dogs were barking for a while, and then sit on the grass and seemed to fall asleep. As I walked down the side way, light of the setting sun covered the whole street and made myself warm enough and did not think about where I was heading. So I just went on.
As I walked down the road even further, I realized one of the biggest differences between Chinese and American living area was that American mostly live in single house with yard but Chinese mainly live in an apartment. The road condition was really bad, and this impression stick with me even until today --- New York City's road is not much better than Buffalo's road.
I stood for a while to distinguish direction. Soon I found a path heading home. It was like going down to a mystery kingdom, and the feeling of not knowing anything slowly flied into my heart as the wind blows. It was around 3 pm, and no one else was on the street. Only the wind stood by my side.
This little adventure may not as any nice journeys as you had, but it means a lot to me. It made me realize the different environment I was living. Although I was alone here, I have courage and confidence to survive and live a better life. From then, I made my mind to make some friends and had nice time in my host family. I have done that after these years and my journey is not alone anymore.
Another remarkable trip I had was the trip I took 2 years ago. I was still in high school then. During Christmas time, my friend and I decided to go to Salt Lake City for snowboarding. In this journey, I gained a lot of joy and knowledge.
On our way of picking up bags after arrived, we saw roughly 200 people in the airport who were picking up their ski boards. I thought this place is paradise for skiers.
Although we lived a little far from the mountain and it required an hour bus ride to get there, just seeing the beautiful view during the bus ride gave us as lot of fun. There was no phone signal on the mountain so I highly recommended a walkie-talkie so that you can keep connection with your friends. The cold weather upon the mountain also killed cell-phones because the battery is not working.
Once came into the ski zone, the heavy snow was telling you that it was time to get on snowboard and enjoy your ride. But before this, there were a few tips to know in case of falling and emergency. First was checking equipments. Your standard equipments should include snow boots, fixtures for boots, snowboards, warm cloth, gloves, goggles and body protection equipments. It is very wise to get yourself a pair of comfortable snow boots so that there will be not too much pain on your feet when you are trying to control the snowboard. For snowboard and fixtures, as a starter, just rent them, it is way much cheaper that way! Secondly, get a few lessons before you go to the peak. It is not easy to learn a new sport especially by yourself, so a good instructor can help a lot. It is kind of hard to start snowboarding, but it gets easier after you get to know the core move. So make sure that you pay the class money, it really worth it.
As for skiing and snowboarding I learned lessons from my trip to Utah. The first one is that always warm up your body enough before doing sports. Another one is to get some massages after a couple days of snowboarding. Because you have made your muscles over working, and there may be some damages on your body. A good massage can really help you recover from these damages and transform you body to rest mode.
On the mountain, no matter you are snowboarding alone or with your friends, always carefully choose where you are having sports. If you are an abecedarian, do not try to go to the blue and black line, even if your friend told you that this blue is so easy that anyone can do it. Remember you are not the only one on the mountain, if you fall and hit the ground hard, which means you cannot get up and keep on going in a short period of time, you might be hit by someone else who is going extremely fast and could not control his speed in an emergency situation. Always remember not make yourself into a dangerous situation, otherwise, a trip of fun can easily turn into a trip of pain and injury.
After all, the trip to Utah is really helpful in the case of learning snowboarding, my friend and I had so much fun and learn so much about it during this time. Salt Lake City is a place that is worth going if you want to feel the excitement of snowboarding and skiing. You will not be disappointed.
This trip stimulated my interest in skiing and snowboarding so I surfed a lot about it. Skiing has a history of almost five millennia. Although modern skiing has evolved from beginnings in Scandinavia, it may have been practiced as early as 600 BC in what is now China. The word "ski" is one of a handful of words Norway has exported to the international community. Asymmetrical skis were used at least in northern Finland and Sweden up until the late 19th century. On one leg the skier wore a long straight non-arching ski for sliding, and on the other a shorter ski for kicking. The bottom of the short ski was either plain or covered with animal skin to aid this use, while the long ski supporting the weight of the skier was treated with animal fat in similar manner to modern ski waxing.
The development of snowboarding was inspired by skateboarding, sledding, surfing and skiing. It was developed in the United States in the 1960s and became a Winter Olympic Sport in 1998. Its popularity (as measured by equipment sales) in the United States peaked in 2007 and has been in a decline since.

That’s all the valuable things I gained during my journeys. These really mean a lot to me and make a most important part of my life. Having a journey and enjoying the course comfort me a lot. These journeys expand my horizon and make me think the meaning of life. Also, I gain interesting knowledge through these. I will continue my journeys, not only in US but all over the world. I will see more, think more, appreciate more and cherish more.
