Family members separated needed letters that had to travel for months for exchanges words and changes in the family. This scenery becomes impossible to imagine for people nowadays. The telecommunication developments swept away the inconveniences of communication in the history.
However, while its advantages facilitate people’s lives, the negative effects also emerged.
The conveniences of technologies disable people since it prevent people doing simple things by themselves. People’s memory becomes shorter and shorter as people increasingly reply on digital devices for aids. People’s physical condition slides with the overwhelming use of escalators and vehicles. The attention span is also been found greatly reduced because people are kep disturbed by digital devices such as mobile phone, iPad, and etc, which even cause difficulties for them to read longer articles. The powerful techniques make people become weak in memory, physics ability, and learning ability, becoming obstacles in people’s life.
With help from latest breakthrough, people become unsatisfied with what is offered by the nature, and they want to invent things that are not existing in the nature world such as genetic modified food. These unnatural existence can cause biological disaster as their gene is artificially modified to strengthen certain functions which probably lead to extinction of species as the modified products have absolute advantages in the environment. The technology itself at the end triggers unexpected result for human being.
The information overload challenges teenagers’ self control and become media of unhealthy misleading sub cultures. Celebrities’ private information and photos leak out and circulate on the internet reveal the vulgar pop culture. In the past, when people have limited channel of information and exchanging these things would not happen. Games and social network sharing reach into every field and minute of lives, which one could seldom find people who are not addicted to mobile phone playing.
Therefore, from the above, science & technology just like the coin with two sides, what’s most important is that we must hold a dialectical attitude towards it, make a scientifical and rational use of it. So we can balance science&technology and its impact on our works and lives.
