When the detective Jason arrived, he claimed that this lady was murdered so he intended to get a warrant to live in the hotel for free for a week, in hope of finding out who the murderer is. Jason and his assistant Max were examining the body carefully but they failed to find out any evidence. All of a sudden, detective Jason saw half a piece of paper in her hand, crumpled, with the words written there, “should be given to”. It is obvious that this young lady knew a secret by accident but whoever was hiding the secret found out the lady knew it.
The detective Jason said, “Well, the murderer is still around. He couldn’t be far.”
His assistant looked confused and asked him, “How do you know he is not far away?”
The detective smirked a little bit and stared at his assistant, “I am so speechless that you are still so slow even though you have been working with me for such a long time!” Later, he took up the half of piece of paper and said, “Because after he murdered her, he intended to take away the evidence but then he must have heard of footsteps approaching. So he did not even have enough time. He had to grab away the paper but he was in such a hurry that he only took half of it.”
“Brilliant!” The assistant gave him an applause.
The next day, it was a nice party of the owners of the hotel and everyone was invited expect the detective as well as his assistant.
“You’d better tell me that you have nothing to hide from me!” Rushing in the office of the hotel manager, detective Jason was blushing because of running too fast.
The manager of the hotel was actually the widow of the former hotel manager who just passed away. She looked angry because the detective barged in the room without knocking so she yelled out, “Don’t you ever feel ashamed that you don’t even knock at the door before you enter?!”
However, the detective did not apologize. On the contrary, he mocked at her, “I have enough reasons to believe that you have murdered the young girl. Isn’t it a coincidence that your husband died a month ago but you do not look sad at all. Right after his death, you became the manager and another woman was killed?”
“I will call my lawyer if you keep accusing me of these ridiculous things.” After a second, she took a deep breath and said, “it is true that I do not look very sad now. I mourn the death of my husband in my own way. I do not intend to show every single staff there that I am ruined, alright?!”
The detective stopped accusing her but he asked politely, “I am sorry that I accused you of such serious crimes but I hope you allow me to join the party together with other clients here. If you have not killed your late husband, I intend to find out who did.”
“Ok, you will have one more week to stay here.”
As the detective left the office, he ran into the daughter of the manager, Rosa. Rosa dressed in white, with a lovely bow on her head, she looked elegant and decent. Detective thought that Rosa was different from other rich people because she was kind to every waiter or waitress. As she gave her other dresses to the waiter to clean, she smiled at the waitress and said, “Gracias, Marta.”
Her smile captivated detective Jason and he could not respond until his assistant clapped his hands to catch his attention, “boss! What the hell are you doing?”
Detective Jason then had realized that the beauty of Rosa got him absent minded but he was too shy to admit it so he lied to his assistant, “I was just thinking, the story is getting more interesting.”
Later, he approached the young girl Rosa and took out his name card and said, “Good evening, lady, I am detective Jason. May I ask you a few questions?”
“Sure.” Her eyes looked a bit vulnerable but her voice was so firm that she seemed to be independent and mentally strong.
“Do you know the dead woman?”
“Yes, I do. It is just…. It is just so much for me in one month. First it was my father, then it was her, auntie Mary…” She got a bit wet in her eyes.
“I am sorry? You mean auntie Mary? But wasn’t she only a waitress in the hotel?” The detective asked.
“No, she was like a mother to me actually. My father and she always liked to read story to me and play games with me together. She is a waitress but she is also like half my mother. That is one thing I learnt from my dad: I treat all waiters and waitresses like my family members.” Rosa smiled.
“That is getting more interesting. I feel like I am watching a drama.” The detective murmured to himself.
“I am sorry?” Rosa looked confused.
The detective bid her farewell then he went back to enjoy the party. In the party, a man named Mike announced his engagement with Rosa. He was a middle aged man with beard around, looking like an experienced businessman. After his announcement, the manager of the hotel, Rosa’s mother went out to announce that as Mike had become her daughter’s fiancé, he would be the leader of the hotel as well.
After 5 days of asking around, the detective Jason could not get the answers to the misery. Until one day, he went back from the flee market with exotic goods, holding a tiny machine in his hand. He announced to the entire hotel that this is in fact the most advanced technology that he had discovered.
“I can look at the knife through this machine and pick up the fingerprints of the murderer. Later, I will match the sample with all of you.”Jason laughed.
Everyone was gossiping about how wonderful this machine is so they were all anxiously waiting for the next day to match the sample. That night, detective Jason said to his assistant, ”we should never fall asleep and we need to guard the sample well so that whoever murdered the lady would not be able to steal the machine or the fingerprints.”
In the middle of the night, detective and his assistant dare not sleep. They opened their eyes to keep their eyes on the machine. However, all of a sudden, a man tried to lurk in the room from the back and hit both of their heads. As a result, they both passed out.
In the next morning, they woke up but the machine was still as, as long as the knife. The assistant kept murdering about why the thief went into the room but did not steal the knife or the machine.
However, when he got to the fingerprints of Rosa’s fiancé, he looked up and showed to the public, “they match each other! He is the murderer!”
“It couldn’t be!” he yelled out and pointed at a fat waiter in the room and said, “Did you get it all wrong?! He is the killer! You should examine his fingerprints again.”
At this moment, Jason took out another knife and said, “You mean his fingerprints are absolutely on this knife because you printed them on it last night after you knocked us out, isn’t it?” Jason smirked.
Rosa’s fiancé got mad and he started yelling, “Damn! You set me up!”
Now the assistant understood why his boss wanted to announce it before and Jason said, “I knew the real murderer will sneak into the room to steal the knife. But if he is a smart person, he will not steal it because it was too obvious. Instead, he will replace it so he thought we will not find out.”
He kept explaining, “Isn’t it convenient that you killed Rosa’s father and then when the dead woman found out her son should inherit the hotel, you killed her as well. Now, when I try to find out the murderer, you put everything on the son of the dead man’s mistresses?!”
In the end, Rosa’s fiancé was arrested and he said to Jason, “You know what? You have only found out half of the secret. I didn’t kill the woman because if it were me, I would do it secretly far away from the hotel. You never wonder why the dead woman was killed in the jungle in the hotel, wouldn’t you?”
