The cold war now is known to be the most famous and memorable period in the history when major incidents have happened. In fact, cold war has happened because at the time, people had suffered from the trauma of the World War Two and they find that having wars is not a smart choice for them to solve the conflict. As a result, the best way to solve a conflict is not fight against each other. After the world war two, when most of the wars in the majority of the nations have ended, there was a great tension between nations with two entirely different political positions. One of the sides is the Western developed nations called the Western Eloc and the other side is the other side is the Eastern Bloc which is led by the Soviet Union.

The historical events that had happened in this period are called the car war. The reason is because these events have happened due to the great tension between two sides and instead of fighting, they have chosen to form alliance with nations of the opposite side. For example, before the cold war had officially happened, the Soviet Union had formed alliance with China and in the entire nation China, the language Russian was set to be the compulsory course for them instead of Chinese. (Sutter, 2012)

The most influential countries in the cold wars are China, the United States and Russia. For me, I think the Chinese leaders are the most successful ones in terms of foreign policies. However, the leaders are not as wise when they are solving the problems in the nation. Before the cold war had happened, China was just out of the terrible war time and the nation had built up its own government and they had their own autonomy in its own area. However, because China was broke and had not enough money or technology to build up the industry in the nation, it has to rely on other more powerful nations Russia in the world. Because the two sides were opposing each other and Chinese leaders had to choose one side to support. (Sutter, 2012)

At the time, the Chinese leaders have noticed that since China is a developing nation with the political system as the Communism system. Also, the Soviet Union happened to have the same political system and the United States is totally against the Communism system. Therefore, it is impossible for China to get the support from the United States or other developed nations. Thus I think Chinese leader Chairman Mao had made a wise choice.

However, what is better for the Chinese leaders is that as the cold war was continuing for around two decades, it was obvious for the nations to notice that the United States is somehow stronger in economy as well as the military force than the Soviet Union. At the time, because of a few disagreements happened between the Soviet Union and China, it is possible that the Chinese government will lose the support from the Soviet Union. At this point, the leaders of the People’s Republic of China had made a fairly good choice because they did not get stuck with the Soviet Union or take efforts to win over the support from the Soviet Union. Instead, the leaders have tried to seek out new ways to have better alliance for the better development of the nation. Also, because of the industrial as well as the agricultural development in the nation for the last two decades, the Chinese government had regained the global status by acting actively on the global stage.

In the nineteen seventieth, the nation had chosen to restart the cooperation relationship with the United States. It is the famous event called the Ping Pong Diplomacy, which means that the Chinese government had tried to repair the relationship between itself and the United States. I believe that it can show the intelligence and the flexibility of the Chinese leaders since it was not easy for the nation to develop by itself. Also, one of the leaders Chairman Deng is the smartest leader and the most successful leader because as the economic scope and the status of different nations in the global world were changing, he had realized that if China solely follows its own development policies by being an absolute communist nation, the people will forever suffer from hunger as well as poverty. Therefore, he had learnt the policies from the western nations and adopted the reform and opening policies.(Garthoff, 2015)

For the least successful leader, I think Khrushchev who followed the reign of Stalin is the least talented one. It is obvious for all people to tell that the policies from Stalin have been more than successful, especially his policies about the collectivism of the private places. After he had ordered the official to carry out these policies in the nation, the entire Russia had suddenly made great improvement in its economic development due to the efforts of the citizens’ hard working as well as the policies themselves. However, when Khrushchev had gained the reign of the nation in nineteen sixty five, he had carried out the policy that had annoyed a lot of official in the nation called the de-Stalinisation.(Garthoff, 2015)  This policy did not only cause him to have an unnecessarily large number of enemies. At the same time, it had result in the nation being off the track because the majority of people, especially the fans of the Stalin all of a sudden found it too difficult to accept the sudden change. Because of the sudden opposite change of the policies, a lot of officials who are his enemies had tried to form groups to bring down the one man rule of Khrushchev. (Garthoff, 2015)

Also, for this foreign policies had been the opposite of those from Stalin. After he had taken over the seat of the former president Stalin, president Khrushchev had tried to change the foreign policies in the Soviet Union by allowing the nation itself to form better relations with some of the western countries. However, at the same time, he had made strong declaration that the unclear war started by the capitalist nations would end up destroying the war. In fact, the president Khrushchev is still now known for his strong and firm attitude against the new clear weapon and the new clear war. It has indeed shown that Khrushchev had adopted the human approach to deal with the nation’s affair. However, it is clearly not a smart choice to get close to the western nations because it might have shown that the nation was no longer as powerful as before so he needed to find new alliances.

Besides, another leader in the United States is one of the leaders that I regarded as smart as well as successful. That is the president Kenney who smartly handled the issue of the Cuban Missile Crisis.(Kennedy, 2011) It has been commonly accepted that the Cuban Missile Crisis had been regarded to be the climax or the most serious moment in the cold war. As the relation between the United States as well as Cuba was getting worse, the Soviet Union had taken advantage of this and secretly had a trade between itself and Cuba. According to the historical records, when the Soviet Union was sneakily planting missile in Cuba, the military force in America had somehow picked up signals of that. Thus, the nation had published a report announcing to the world that the United States was helping Cuba in its military development. However, even though the Soviet leader Khrushchev had denied what the nation had been accused of, president Kennedy had made their point clear that if the Soviet Union had continued in planting missile, the nation would not be scared off. On the contrary, to fight against his horrible behavior, the nation would take any measures to make sure that its nation is well protected and should not be threatened by a few missiles. In the end, the Cuban Missile Crisis had come to the end, which brought relief to a lot of citizens. (Kennedy, 2011)

To conclude, there are a lot of leaders who have made different policies that ended up leading their own nations on different tracks. It is obvious that one small decision made by the leaders could change the world. For example, if the Cuban Missile Crisis was not ended on time, millions of innocent people could have lost their lives. However, I believe the Chinese leaders, especially Chairman Deng is the smartest and the most successful because he was able to change the nation’s policies for its better development according to different background but the president Khrushchev was the least successful because his policies had brought him a lot of enemies and he almost made a wrong choice that could end up bringing up the third world war.
