The video narrates the lives of fours pupils with Autism in SPA school (State School for Pupils with Autism). Roxanne is just like any other teenager girl who is into music and clothes but because of her autism, she can’t control her own emotion and have outburst of violent sometimes. She wants to be normal and makes friends with others but she doesn’t know how to do that and she feels guilty for being autistic. Maneer is a young boy with Asperger's Syndrome, which means that he has problems in the development of many basic skills, most notably the ability to socialize with others, to communicate, and to use imagination. He just lost his mother to cancer and he tries to cope with his emotion of sadness by being aggressive and violent towards others because he doesn’t know how to express his feelings to people and he has difficulties empathizing with others. Roy is obsessed with Eastenders. Like most people with autism, he feels safe by holding on to a certain routine or repetitive behavior so he can be easily thrown off balance by a slight change of routine or behavior. Roy will graduate from SPA school soon and face the real world by himself. He likes a girl in his swimming club but doesn’t know how to start a relationship. Although he is more able than other autistic kids after years of training and learning, he still struggles to understand how the real world works. Esther sits alone in front of a camera, talking about her unique understanding of the world and what she wants in life. She is all by herself through this documentary. She has her own way of seeing and understanding things and it makes her like an outsider in this world.
Other than telling the stories of these four autistic pupils, the documentary also touches upon the ways of treating and teaching these autistic pupils from the view of educators in the SPA school. They want to let all these autistic students know that they are behaving this way not because that they are bad kids but because of their autism affecting their brains and ways of treating themselves and others. The school teaches them to understand the negative effects caused by autism so they can try to control and fight them.
