Creating a Plan for Positive Influence LRD/531 - Organizational Leadership June 11, 2012 Jerry Kuhn Creating a Plan for Positive Influence The team will be working on a project for the company, and it will take approximately a year to complete. While doing the project the team will be looking for ways to increase the team’s motivation, satisfaction, and performance. Issues to pay attention to are the differences in attitudes, emotions, personalities, and values among the people in the group, and the differences that influence behavior. With the team working together for a year these differences need to be effectively addressed to have a positive influence on the team. Team’s Motivation, Satisfaction, and Performance Increase in motivation, satisfaction, and performance within the team is important to keep the project moving on pace towards completion. Ways to increase motivation would be to support team member’s ideas; an incentive for the completion on time; and encourage the maximum performance from each team member while working towards the team goal. When getting team members to become motivated within a team can be difficult if they do not want to be on the team. So encouraging that person to think of ways to do the project will get him or her to participate and involved in the team project. Supporting the team member’s ideas will allow him or her to see that someone is paying attention to the ideas and possibly come up with more ideas. Developing an incentive will set a goal along with the completion of the project, money. Ways to increase satisfaction among the team members are giving the team enough time to complete the project, giving enough details that the project can be completed, and applause the team members when they have completed steps of the project. By giving the team enough time to complete the project will allow the team members to work at a steady pace. If the team is rushed then the project may not be completed to its entirety. Satisfaction can come from the applause from other team members or management when the team has completed a step within the project. Ways to increase performance would be to provide the team with enough information toward the project that is being completed; how well the team members listen to one another; and allow the team member to decide the solution for the problems to the project. Making sure the team has all the information required to complete the project is key. Without information the team could fail the project. The team members need to make sure that he or she is listening to all other team members. This will help the team’s communication and get the project completed. Team members making decisions for the problems will help to increase performance by getting more involved. Differences in Attitudes, Emotions, Personalities, and Values Every team member will have a different attitude, emotion, personality, and value. With having the differences will help the team member to interact with each other, think of things in a different way, and possibly think of more ideas. A manager could be assigned to the team to make sure that the team in moving in the right directions with these differences. A manager may want to pair up the members that have the closest attitudes, emotions, personalities, and values. This would prevent some conflicts from happening. When a conflict arises, the team members need to have some way of talking out the issue. This can be done with a third party that does not have any knowledge of the team’s project. Conflicts can be settled quickly if it is caught soon enough. Conflicts can get out of hand and be negative on the entire team and could result in late completion. Conclusion Team members who get enough information and time can have a successful project completed on time. Motivation, satisfaction, and performance will play a huge part in the team’s success. A majority of the team will need to be on the same level to ensure that the other team members get to the same point. The differences in attitude, emotions, personalities, and values will need to be addressed before conflict starts.
