A Day at the Park
Chan Laurente was a half Chinese-Filipino student who studied in Jefferson High School. Chan was a very quiet person who usually didn’t entertain people’s attentions. He kept everything to himself and rarely trusted or conversed with people. Although Chan did not have any friends, he had a sibling. His one and only brother was named Jason. Jason was very different from John. He was popular, charismatic, and very athletic; he was also very intelligent in Mathematics. This junior year, he is already in Trigonometry! Although John and Jason were different from each other, they shared one common thing, they both didn’t like Disneyland. But as they embark on an unexpected adventure to the magical place, they will discover that there is more to Disneyland than what they think.
March 8: The day that the jazz band has been waiting for, for almost two months. It was the day that they would travel to Anaheim, California to compete for the battle of the jazz bands. The school band that wins the competition will be awarded with a ten thousand dollar reward for their performance. The Jefferson jazz band is one of the best bands in the state. They also had one of the best jazz musicians in their band, Chan Laurente. Chan was the best clarinet player in the band, and his talent has helped Jefferson take home the gold in band recitals for three straight years! Unfortunately, there was a problem for Jefferson; Chan would not be participating in this year’s battle of the bands. Although Chan will not be traveling with the band, he will still be heading for Anaheim. Chan and his family are going to Disneyland this weekend for a family trip. Chan tried every way possible to avoid this trip, but his parents were ignorant to his excuses. In the end, Chan agreed to go because he had no more excuses. With the family intact, the Laurente family set out for Anaheim.
Upon arriving in Disneyland, the group planned on what they would be doing first. Chan and Jason were ultimately nature shocked when they got to Disneyland. The place was just a total joke for them. They never thought that they would actually be forced to ride kiddy rides that would just bore them to death. The group went on to continue riding the “kiddy” ride until lunchtime. While the unit was heading out to grab some lunch, Chan and Jason decided to use the restroom thinking that the family would wait for them. Not knowing that Chan and Jason were in the restroom, the family leaves them behind to explore more of Disneyland. When the boys came out of the restroom, they were in disbelief. “Where are they'” they both asked themselves. After arguing for almost hours about what to do, they decide to set out to look for their parents. Little did they know that they were starting a journey that would change their lives forever.
Before going to Disneyland, the boys made up imaginations of what it would be like once they got there. They concluded that Disneyland was a place for kids, not for teenagers. While the boys started to head out to look for Chan’s family, two unusual people kidnap them and bring them to a corner. The kidnappers told the boys to calm down and promised them they weren’t going to hurt them. All they wanted, they said, was to show the boys what Disneyland was really all about. From that point on, the boys and the “kidnappers” rode incredible rides that the boys never knew about Disneyland. They rode all the big-boy rides. Rides such as the California Screamin’, Mailboomer, Tower of Terror, Space Mountain, Matterhorn Bobsleds, etc. made the boys scream at the top of their voices. To cap off the great day, the kidnappers brought the boys to watch the fireworks at night which left the boys awe-strucked. After the fireworks, the kidnappers returned the boys to their parents. As the boys rejoined their parents, they were surprised to how their parents acted. They acted as if they’ve never left. The reception of their parents left the boys completely confused because they thought that the family has been looking for them since they were separated. After hours of argument, Chan and Jason decided to keep their adventure to themselves and keep the identity of their kidnappers secret. As the family left Disneyland, Chan and Jason looked back at the magical place knowing that it had changed them completely.
