Violence_in_Media

There Should be Restrictions on Media in Terms of Violence There have been numerous debates on the topic of whether violence in media should be restricted or not. I myself side with the “yes” to restriction on media violence. Others may think differently since some people may find seeing a person's head getting blasted off or a fistfight between teenagers which results broken bones or getting stabbed enjoyable. I don't mean that violence in media should be TOTALLY RESTRICTED. I totally agree that a movie (which is where people pick up most of the violence from of all the types of media) will be impossibly dull without any action or any pulse-quickening moments. There can be some minor violence, but lets keep it to the level of 'fine' and avoid too much brain-spilling, shall we' Violence in media should be regulated at a certain level. Why' I'll give you five major reasons why. First of all, it seems like there are only violent TV shows and movies nowadays. I mean, take a look at, lets say... Ben 10. A 'kid's' cartoon. On Cartoon Network, a satellite channel in which every house seems to own nowadays. Children love it. They think it's cool. They admire Ben 10, who is actually some cartoonist's imaginary character who happens to be able to turn into different weird monsters and runs around beating other monsters up. Well, think about it. It's not far away from your own daily lives. Think about your little brothers or cousins who are now running around trying to turn into aliens and beating up their friends because they are aliens too! And, remember when you were five and running around in an Ultra-Man costume blasting imaginary energy at random people passing by' What do you think of that now' This all leads to reason number two. Media glorifies violence and gives off the wrong message. By giving off so much importance to violence, the media also encourages crazy people to be violent in order to get a lot of attention. Children copy violence seen on TV and in films. Like I said before. But if this time, it was the movie “My Bloody Valentine” instead of “Ultra-Man”. Now your little brother will be shoving bodies into washing machines then stabbings the eyes out of old men. Would you live with THAT''' Number Three: Media is cynical and only worried about making money. Are we really paying all that money for all that violence' Millions of millions of dollars are pocked by media owners each year who are probably smirking gleefully at our stupidity to pay all that money for violent shows that can be so easily. Four: What is more important to the growth of our society: a violent-addict or a good school teacher' Who gets more coverage in media' What do you think the children watching the violent contents at home right now will choose to be when they grow up' A supercool gangster with awesome knives and guns and loyal followers' Or the so uncool dorky-looking school teacher who is always pranked and pitied' Well, you know your choices, don't you' You've been through this in your lifetime and with the help from your parents and proper teachers explaining the rights and wrongs in life. Now you've just barely escaped the bad choices you could've made without the given guidelines. But what about the other children who don't have as much opportunities as we do' Who will guide them' If there were restricted violence in media, just enough for children to be able to figure out what is right or wrong, how many wrong choices are probably left for children to make' As John Locke says, humans are born a blank tablet. Their human nature builds from their environment and what they have been taught or what they have seen. So don't make it that way with children and violence. Last but not least, Does all this violence improve your life in any way''' Violence begets violence. No, it certainly doesn't improve our lives in any way. At all. Trust me, someone would've found it a long time ago if there was a way. So think about it people! Questions 1) Would you allow your child under the age of 12 to watch the movie “My Bloody Valentine” or “Saw”' If so, why' 2) Can you give any explanation on how violence can give a positive effect to the minds of their audiences' 3) What are the negative effects if there was no violence in media on earth at all' How would people act differently from today'
