Genre: Competition Adventure Target Audience: 40-60 year olds Structure of Game The scene is set for a fantastic travel game called The Travel Survivor where the player will experience the joys of being in wrong place, at the wrong time, plane crashes, floods, storms, infectious disease and hidden problems. The target audience is 40-60 year olds; it appeals to them because they have money and time to travel. The more knowledgeable you are about a country and the customs, the easier it will be to progress further in the game. Jake and Mellissa, who live in Australia, entered a competition to win a holiday to travel around the world, to learn about different cultures. If you’re the winner of the competition, having won the most money, you get to keep that money. The smarter you travel to overcome obstacles, the more money you will receive at the end of the game. You can replay the game and try and beat other people who play the game and are already on the leader boards. An example of how they will earn money during the trip will be: arriving at their destination on the right date and time. The obstacles may be flight and train delays, plane crashes. Jake and Melissa might get split up and lose each other. If you play smartly and carefully, this may not happen and you will receive the highest money for that particular level. The game has 20 levels, with a maximum time limit of 20 minutes per level. If you don’t get to your destination in this time, you have to restart that level and you lose money. My target audience are competing against each other and striving to reach the most money to get the highest position on the leader boards. There are four main characters in the game, Jake and Melissa and two local guides, Alejandro in South America and Johan in Africa. Treatment Jake and Melissa entered a competition to learn about the world and were very excited at the prospect of winning money and going on a holiday at the same time. Jake and Melissa boarded the plane for Rio de Janeiro to meet their guide Alejandro. On arrival, they had to go through customs and because they had never travelled before, they didn’t realize that they couldn’t carry fruit and a pocket knife in their luggage, so were delayed for two hours explaining why. They arrived at the hotel five hours late. They had jetlag and felt terrible, not a good start in the game! During the following week, they were successful in quite a few challenges, but unfortunately on their last day in Rio, they were caught up in the Carnivale celebrations and couldn’t get to the airport in time for their flight to Johannesburg. They had a fantastic time in Rio, experiencing the amazing food, culture and way of life. The game has lots twists and turns and it has been very tiring for them both! The next morning we managed to get to the airport and had a choice of three flights to Johannesburg. We chose the first one, as it was the largest plane and thought it would be the most comfortable. However, half way there, one of the engines exploded and we were re-routed to Iraq for an emergency landing. At this stage, we thought that we were losing the competition badly; however by being detoured, we were given Business Class seats on our next flight to Johannesburg, which we hoped would give us extra money (points). On arrival in Africa, we were welcomed by the local guide Johan. We visited the most amazing Wildlife parks and whilst we were there, we were given a package to open. It was a camera, so we could take a photo and the best photo would earn us more points. We thought we took an amazing shot of Hippo, doing a belly flop into the river; with his mouth wide open showing his large green tusks! We were having the time of our lives. Our stay in Africa was much better than we anticipated and the competition is nearing completion. We didn’t get to finish all the challenges on time, so this could go against us. But time will tell. Three months later, we received a letter to say we had WON the major prize as we had earned the most money (points). The game prize was $20,000. We are Marketing strategy My game (The Travel Survivor) is a competition adventure game and will appeal to my audience (40-60 year olds) because they are now at a stage in their life where they can afford to travel and have the time to do so. My target audience does not like shooting games, that’s why I chose challenges that they have to overcome and puzzles which they like. Our audience will be attracted to this game because of the chance of winning the opportunity to win the most amount of money (points) and try and beat real players playing the game around the world. Replay value is very high! I will advertise on TV at times of 7-10 o’clock at night, I chose this time because this is when a high numbers of 40-60year olds watch TV. I will advertise on billboards because my age group travels a lot. I will advertise on the internet and YouTube etc, but these won’t be my main source of advertising because my age group doesn’t use the internet as much. Another place I will advertise is magazines like Women’s Weekly, PC Gamer, PlayStation: The Official Magazine, Xbox Magazine official and Game Informer. This will attract my target audience because of their craving for knowledge. My game will be available on ps3, Xbox 360, PC and Nintendo Wii. Character Profiles Mellissa Smith 55 Retired She was a micro biologist and she loves travel and the outdoors She loves travel and the outdoors and loves birds Jake smith 52 He is an Engineer and loves fishing His motivation is to just following his wife Mellissa everywhere Johan Vantronder 36 He is a guide and loves wildlife He is the guide in Africa for Jake and Mellissa Alejandro Ronchetti 29 He is a guide and loves to fish He is a guide in South America for Jake and Mellissa Screen Shots This is a cut scene from when there was an explosion in the plane’s engine and they had to do an emergency landing in Iraq. Bright colours and lighting in this shot, moving inside the plane and showing the emotions of the people on the plane and this is a large wide angle shot. Strait line image. This is a cut scene which is the statue ‘Christ the Redeemer’, showing one of the tourist attractions in Rio de Janero. It is a long shot. The composition is a commanding concrete statue in very large proportions. This was when they were seeing who could take the best photo and the photo that Mellissa took it won the most points out of everyone in the competition. It is a medium shot. In this photo there was not colour or texture. This is a scene when they were caught in the Carnivale calibrations. This is a portrait close up, great texture and colour.
