Looking at the anatomical parts of the cardi/o/vascul/ar system, we first have the heart. In many cases, one may think that the cardi/o/vascul/ar system would only consist of the heart\cardi, veins\ven, and capillaries for the blood to flow thru. However, the blood has a much larger job than just flowing through the body; it has to carry oxygen, nutrients, waste, and other particles from one place to another. The entire human anatomy has to work together as a fine tuned and well-oiled machine in order to function properly, as every body part depends on another for one thing or another. The heart and veins do carry the blood to every part of the body, but the life giving fluid has to make a much needed pass through the lungs first too become oxygenated. With this being said I guess you could say the complete anatomy of the cardiovascular system consists of the trachea, bronch/i, pneumon\lungs, alveoli, heart, arteries, veins, and capillaries. (Wingerd, 2006). The heart and lungs are involuntary organs, which work on their own. As the lungs expanded, they pull air in and the force of the pumping cardi moves the flow of blood thru the capillaries as it mixes with the oxygen. Each time the heart beats or pumps moving this fluid, the lungs repeat its process. After the blood has been mixed with the oxygen, it travels thru the right and left pulmon/ary veins to the arteries and on to all the other parts of the body. As the blood reaches each of its locations, the arteries branch off into smaller body capillaries where it supplies these parts with proteins and oxygen, and carry out the waste products and carbon dioxide. The deoxygenated blood is then recycled, cleansed and the process is started all over again, (Wingerd, 2006). Even though the heart pumps the blood to other parts of the body, we have to realize that the heart is also a living organ and has to have its own supply in order to function. The heart receives this supply by way of a small branch near the base of the aorta called the (CO), cardiac output. This function is the coronary circulation, (Wingerd, 2006). Cardi/ac catheterization or a coronary angi/o/gram, which is often used to diagnose a problem with the heart\cardi and coronary arteri/es. This procedure is used to for checking the flow of blood thru the arteries, and to check the (BP), blood pressure within in the chambers of the heart. This allows the physician to know how well the valves are performing, and to find out if the walls of the heart have any defects, Healthwise (1995-2011). The use of cardiac catheterization is mainly to find out if you have ather/o/sclerosis, which is a plaque buildup that narrows the coronary arteries. The plaque consists of fat and calcium deposits. The procedure pinpoints where and how serious these deposits are. The results will determine whether a coronary bypass is needed or a (PCI); percutaneous coronary intervention might cure the problem, Healthwise (1995-2011). There are several different types of procedures used for correcting these conditions. One may consist of an angi/o/plasty, used to open the blockage using a balloon and inserting an expandable wire tube known as a stent. An atherectomy may be used which is very similar, with the exception of using a special tool or laser to cut out the plaque, Healthwise (1995-2011). Cardi-Heart- Hollow muscular pump located in the thoracic cavity. Ven-Vein- Singular, one of many tubes that form part of the circulatory system and carry blood from the body parts back to the heart, (Deoxygenated). Cardi/ac-Heart/Pertaining to- About or pertaining to the heart. Pneumon-Breath, Air, Lung- A prefix related to or about the lung or lungs. Arteri/es-Artery- Muscular-walled tubes that carry the blood supply out to different parts of the body, (oxygenated). Angi/o/plasty-Vessel/o/surgical repair-(Procedure) – A Procedure in which a balloon is used at the tip of a catheter to enlarge the narrowing of a coronary artery. Ather/o/scler/o/sis-Fatty/o/Hardening/o/state of –Narrowing of the artery due to build-up of fat and calcium deposits. Cardi/o/vascul/ar-Heart/o/Little blood vessels/Pertaining to –Anything relating too or associated with the heart and the blood vessels. Pulmon/ary-Lungs/pertaining to –Pertaining to the blood flow to and from the lungs. (Wingerd, 2006) Doctor's and other clinicians most commonly use medical terminology to reduce the time and space it takes to write out everything needed to make up a medical reports and prescriptions. This may also cut down on the invasion of private matters knowing that the largest percent of the population has no knowledge of the Greek or Latin language.
