Uniforms

Uniforms I think school uniforms are a waste of time and money and students shouldn’t be forced to wear them. They do not have any positive effect on students or help us to learn, which is the reason we come to school. Uniforms convey a message that conformity is more important than creativity and self expression. It’s telling students that their opinions and school work isn’t as important uniform because students are regularly punished for breaking the uniform code even if their school work is excellent. Uniforms are also expensive. My mum has spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on uniforms for me and my sister. If our school didn’t have a uniform that money could have gone towards clothes that we like and could be worn at school and on weekends. Uniforms often cause more worry than the learning of students. Teachers waste a lot of time stressing and getting angry over uniforms when they could be using that energy worrying about the learning and progress of the students in their classes. We come to school to learn and that shouldn’t be affected by the constant critique of our uniform. Imagine how much more we’d learn if we didn’t have to give a second thought to the colour of our headbands, nail polish, hair bands on our wrists or how uncomfortable we are. A lot of people think school uniforms are good because it means that students will be judged on their personality rather than their clothes, when in fact this does not happen at all. People get judged anyway and on mufti day it’s still the same kids getting bullied as well as it’s the same ones not doing their work and acting up in class. Uniform does little to stop people from judging each other. In the real world people do get judged on how they look and students should probably learn how to deal and overcome this. I think school uniforms are a waste of time and money and students shouldn’t be forced to wear them. Students don’t need another reason to think of school in a negative way. Schools would be more welcoming and positive places if the opinions of adults weren’t forced upon students and they could freely express themselves and wear what they wanted.
