Health and Safety legislations
* The Health and Safety at Work, etc Act 1974
The main purpose of this Act is that to secure the health, safety and welfare of all employees and others who may be affected by any work activities in eg pupils/students and visitors to educational sites, including parents and contractors.
Basically this Act is an obligation on the employer to ensure that health, safety and welfare of employees is reasonably practicable. Also it is imposed on all those responsible for workplace to ensure that plant and machinery facilities do not endanger people who use them.
This section also requires employees to cooperate with their employer in relation to health and safety issues. Is responsibility of every employee take care of them and of any persons who are may be affected by their actions in relation with health and safety.
* Sex Discrimination Act 1975
This Act prohibits discrimination based on sex and marital status in employment, education and the provision of goods and services, and for reasons of sex change in the employment field. It applies in England, Scotland and Wales and covers all workers of any sex and all organisations in UK. It includes recruitment, training, pay and benefits, promotions and transfer opportunities.
* Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and (2005)
This law was amended in 2001 by the special educational needs and disabilities. This was done to provide the rights of persons with disabilities in access to education, transportation, housing, employment and services.
The Disability Discrimination Act 2005 places a general obligation of public authorities to promote disability equality to ensure people are not discriminated against their disabilities and required full assistant for their needs, for example by making reasonable adjustment such as providing special transport, lifts, ramps and leaflets in Braille.
* The Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006
This legislation prohibits unjustified direct and indirect age discrimination on the grounds of gender, and all harassment and victimisation on grounds of age. Therefore it provides individuals protections and equal right in relation to employment and services to ensure people are not discriminated against whatever are their age.
