“Turmoil” ATIKUL ISLAM DAFFODIL INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY “Turmoil” is a short story written by Ayesa begum. The story is written on present day situation biased. She wants to depict our social problem. Those are very much familiar with our today’s world. Plot: (The  HYPERLINK "http://www.blurtit.com/q876285.html" plot in a story is also called a storyline. It is the main story of any literary work, whether a play, a novel or a short story. A plot includes all the events that together tie up to make the story. It comprises of a proper beginning, middle and an end. Basically a plot is the story line or the way a story is written. The short story usually has one plot so it can be read in one sitting).  Andrew is the son of Petter and Nina is the daughter of Pawl. They are two close friends from their childhood. Andrew is an Engineer worked in a company and Nina is his wife .They are living in Dhaka. Dew to his company job he is so much busy. He can not give much time to his wife. As a result she feels lonely and passed his time unhappily. Eventually she gets phone from Jenny, an unknown person. After their introducing part they come closer and fall in love. For her lonely ness and also of her husband’s carelessness behavior she except his proposal. They passed happy time. On the other side, eventually Andrew knew all the happening. He informed the entire thing to his wife’s family and detached her from mobile phone. From this time they passed unhappy time as a husband wife. In course of time situation their relation becomes normal. Nina apologies for her fault. Now they lived together happily. But one day a little doubt arises about their Family affair. This time Nina takes a decision to leave Andrews family. Then she called Jenny and go way with him. Character:( Short stories use few characters.  One character is clearly central to the story with all major events having some importance to this character - he/she is the PROTAGONIST.  The opposer of the main character is called the ANTAGONIST.) Here I find five characters. From which three are major and two are minor character. Major characters and there role: Andrew: He is a male protagonist He worked as an engineer. Here he is husband of Nina. Nina. She is female protagonist .She is a village girl. In Dhaka city she lives with his husband. She is a housewife. Jenny: He act here as an Antagonist. He is a service holder and lives in Dhaka city. Later he married Nina. Minor characters and there role: Petter: Father of Andrew. He is a school teacher and lives in village.Pawl: He is a Govt: service holder. Father of Nina and best friend of petter. He lives in village. SETTING: The time and location in which a story takes place is called the setting) Place – Here the writer indicates two place where the story take place. One is village side and another is Dhaka city.  Time: Here time is not clearly mentioned by the writer. May be this story is written in present time and also written in present situation biased.Weather conditions – It’s also not clearly mentioned. May be it is a sunny weather   Social conditions - the story contain local colour   Mood or atmosphere - at the beginning of the story the atmosphere is bright and cheerful and at last it is dark and frightening THEME: (The theme in a piece of fiction is its controlling idea or its central insight.  It is the author's underlying meaning or main idea that he is trying to convey.  The theme may be the author's thoughts about a topic or view of human nature)  Here the writer wants to depict our universal problem that is “family crisis and its bad impact”. Here, may have some sub theme that is, lack of faith between husband and wife and another is the loneliness of a married woman. From my point of view “family crises and its bad impact” is the main theme of this story. POINT OF VIEW: (Point of view, or p.o.v., is defined as the angle from which the story is told.) Through reading the story I have an idea about the story teller. Here the protagonist and other characters are not describing the story. So the story is describing as a third person point of view . My view:From my point of view it’s a realistic story that follows up our present day family condition. This story teaches us how to treat such a family problem. I think the writer try to write better story, though it has some mistakes. I think it is a “B” grade story.
