Tracking the Intersection of Culture and Media Tracking the Intersection of Culture and Media Rock music is more than a piece of entertainment in our society because music, especially rock music, is a piece of art. It is a way for artists from all walks of life, to express themselves and their emotions, and share them with us. Rock music helps us to understand and correlate our lives to theirs. Rock music is a very popular form of music, whether it be heavy metal, or love songs. Its popularity is due in part, to our society being able to relate to the music. The artists put forth so much emotion that you can almost “feel” their experiences. When I hear rock music, I want to get up and dance and sing, and experience something that can only be experienced by listening to the beat of the music. Sometimes the music is soft and beautiful, and other times it is so heated that it makes you want to shout. Everyone has different opinions and different likes and dislikes of the types of music, whether it is hard rock, classic rock, or country, most of us listen to some form of music. Perhaps it is because each the different types of music each have their own personalities or because they evoke a passion to our inner souls. Music has been the foundation that has lead us to where we are today, free. While I was growing up, I listened to Elvis Presley, most notable for being known as the “King of Rock and Roll”. Elvis was so compassionate and strong willed that it was hard to ever forget how I felt when I listed to his lyrics. As I got older, my tastes turned to heavy metal in my teenage years; and boy was that an exciting time for me! Led Zepplin, Ozzy Osborne, and Ronnie James Dio, were all electric to listen to! They made me feel so alive and energetic! Now in my forties, my tastes have changed to a more subtle and relaxed era of music. I appreciate the mellower lyrics and beats of The Eagles, Aerosmith, and Bad Company. Easy rock makes me feel calm and in sync with my life, it makes me feel alive and I can relate to its sound. The best point of rock music is: it is not just to be another form of entertainment; but to bring meaning and a sense of belonging to our lives.
