The ideal President By: Carolyn Sykes 8/29/2009 Delano High School Period five Leaders are very important in this day of age. We need good leaders to guide and direct us, with the decisions we need to make and the problems we face in the world today. They help us do things we are not authoritative enough to do. Leaders are suppose to be role models and good influences on the young people of today, so they can be good leaders in the future like they are. Leaders are there to lead us, so we do not mess things up by being inexperienced. We have leaders to represent us as a group, not individuals. The first quality a good President should have is honesty; they should be able to tell the truth. They should not lie to us about anything even if it may cause panic or distress towards anyone or anything. A good example of honesty would be Abraham Lincoln, also known as “Honest Abe”. When Abraham Lincoln was a lawyer, he hardly ever took payment for his services, and once when he owned a store, he realized he did not give a woman enough tea for the money she gave him, so he measured it out and took it to her personally and she did not even know she was short. This should influence our president of today to be more like him. The second quality a good president should have is open-mindedness; they should be open to new ideas and listen to what other people have to say, but they do not have to agree or do what they say. For example, if there is a war or something a President does not know how to handle or solve, they need to be open to ideas from other people, but that does not mean they have to do what they say they should just listen and be open to what they say. That is an excellent quality to have in the presidential occupation. The third quality a good president should have is fairness; they should be fair to everyone, even to other countries who we are fighting against or they are unfair to us. For example, if a country who has threatened us before needs help, we should help them by sending them supplies they need. They need to treat everyone fairly, and they need to follow the golden rule “treat others how you want to be treated” even if they do not return the favor, but they should still fight if it is a worthy cause. The fourth quality a good president should have is to be Godly; they should have some type of faith, hopefully it is in God. This is a good quality to have because it sets a good example for everyone, also because our country was founded with God “One nation under God”. Therefore, the president should be Godly and have faith in God to help them do their job the right way and make the right decisions. The president could use this to set an example to the citizens of the United States and everyone else. Having a Godly president would improve some of the youth decisions to follow God, because of the positive role model they have to look up to and be like. The fifth quality a good president should have is bravery; the president should not be afraid of making people mad or going to war, if it is necessary. The president should stand up for his beliefs and not worry about what other people think or say, because there is always going to be people who disagree, but they will get over it. For example, Abraham Lincoln was very brave he stood up for what he believed in, like slavery, he thought it was wrong and he expressed his feelings not caring what others thought or said. Abraham Lincoln was shot because he stood up for his beliefs, but at least he was not a coward and he changed the way people looked at slavery. The president should always be brave and trust in God to help them if they are afraid. In conclusion, the ideal president should be fair, honest, Godly, open minded, and brave. If our president had these qualities, they might be able to change the world, not literally, but figuratively. These qualities are the most important thing to have as a president; they would not lie to you, so you would know what is going on in the world and what they are doing to stop it or just change it. They would be fair to everyone, that way everyone is equal and no one can call it racism. They would also be open-minded, so they would listen to others ideas and be open to new ideas. They would also be brave, so you know they will lead us down the right path, and be strong in his beliefs. The president would also be Godly, so they would give the youth a positive role model to look up to, and hopefully want to be like someday. If we had a president with these qualities, they might be able to solve the bombings we have against other countries, if we treat them fair, and with their open-mindedness we might have more solutions to things the president does not know how to solve or has tried and failed. This would be the best solution to the economic situation we are having today.
