TOPIC: FACTORS TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT WHEN CONSIDERING A RESEARCH
TOPIC AND THE TOPIC SELECTED BY OUR GROUP.
Abstract
The aim of this paper is to outline the factors that are taken into account when selecting a topic and to outline the topic that group D has chosen to research on. The topic was selected using the same factors that were identified as reasons to why that specific topic. However, we start our work by defining research and why do we have to research. This we do to pave the way to the main reason we have this document. We used a number of sources to compile this document and acknowledged their work accordingly. We hope that this work has met the expectation as required from us.

INTRODUCTION
There are many definitions for research but to mention a few, we start first by defining research as the search for knowledge or any systematic investigation to establish facts.[1] We also learned that there is a strict definition of scientific research which is performing a methodical study in order to prove a hypothesis or answer a specific question.[2] Lastly, it is a systematic investigation to establish facts or principles or to collect information on a subject.[3]
The main purposes of research are to explore or investigate an area or issue on which little previous work has been carried out. Research is also done to show why relationships, patterns and links occur and to evaluate the impact of something, for example a new policy or event.[4] Lastly, the purpose of research is to discover answers to questions through the application of scientific procedures.[5] Once we know the definition and the purpose of research we are then able to select a topic and be able to tell others why we selected that topic.
CHAPTER 1
THE FACTORS TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT WHEN CONSIDERING A TOPIC
Firstly, when choosing a question we need to consider questions like: [6]
1. Can it be enthusiastically pursued'
Energy, motivation, and devotion are all key factors that constitute a successful research and thus should not be ignored.
2. Can interest be sustained by it'
3. Is the problem solvable'
Complex problems should not be attempted when one is aware that they do not have the human, financial or political support to carry out a research topic.
4. Is it worth doing'
5. Will it lead to other research problems'
6. Is it manageable in size'
7. What is the potential for making an original contribution to the literature in the field'
8. If the problem is solved, will the results be reviewed well by scholars in your field'
9. By solving it, will you have demonstrated independent skills in your discipline'
10. Will the necessary research prepare you in an area of demand or promise for the future'
Other factors would include:
1. Values:
We found that peoples’ values differ and this affects their choices when choosing a
topic.
2. Resources:
Others topics are influenced by the availability of sources like money, equipment and time.
3. Problems:
Others choose a topic based on a particular problem in order to identify it and find possible solutions.
4. If there is insufficient knowledge:
If a knowledge gap exists in departments like education for one, a research will be conducted to find out how this can be solved.
CHAPTER 2
The topic chosen by the group is;
➢ The effect of Warfare on Internally displaced persons and Refugees in South Africa
