For over fifty years there has been which seems to be a never ending war between the excitsting Sate of Israel and the Proposed Palestinian Sate. The State of Israel is located in western Asia and boarders the vast Mediterranean Sea to the east. Israel which is highly populated by Jewish residents, is also adjoined by the West Bank which was formerly under Jordanian rule, and the Gaza Strip, which takes its name from Gaza its main city Even though Israel is adjoined by these two regions, both are palestinian territories and are mostly dominated by Palestinian Arab residents. Palestine which was formerly ruled by Britain, is a name which refers to the region between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River. Palestine can also refer to an area that includes contemporary Israel and the palestinian territories. This ongoing battle between Israel and Palestine stems from the persistent claims to the same area of land. The Palestinian people general view the State of Israel as, being in the way of them developing as a sate of there own. And Israel continues to stand there ground and fight for there land. This battle mainly consists of road side bombs, suicide bombers, and random acts of violence toward the Israeli civilians by the Palestinians. These attacks happen very frequently and are almost a part of everyday life in the area. Although there has been many attempts to bring these consistent fighting between these regions to an end, many have failed and the disagreements still stand.
On May 14th 1948 the jews of Palestine declared the establishment of the state of Israel. Threatened by the attacks by seven Arab states, the fresh prime minister, David Ben-Gurion, declared at a moving ceremony at the Tel Aviv Museum, the establishment of an official Jewish Sate in Palestine, to be called Israel. At the time the large Jewish community of Palestine were overjoyed to hear about the news, placing the blue and white flags out their windows to proclaim there independence. Even though it was a time to celebrate, the Jewish people anguished over the the fact that seven Arab tribes were preparing to attack and kill the Jewish state for good. The first order of business by prime minister Ben-Gurion was to void the British White Paper, which was greatly hated by the Jewish community for its curbs on Jewish immigration and land sales. The void was soon followed by the members signing of their Declaration of Independence. Soon after this great moment in prophetic history, the Israel- TransJordan Armistice Agreement was signed; where by Jerusalem was divided between two countries and was also proclaimed to be the capital of Israel; while East Jerusalem is ruled by Jordan.
One of the most significant moments in Jewish history to this day was the June 1967 Six-Day War. During this war Jewish troops stormed there way toward the last remaining high point ruled by Jordanians, which conquered there land during the 1948 war. The Jews were determined to fulfill there long term dream and over throw the Jordanians and once again be able to touch the Western Wall, which represents the Jewish people’s most sacred connection to their ancient roots. After Jewish forces bombarded through Lion’s Gate, which was the the main entry point to the Old City, Yitzhak Rabin referred to the event as, “the peak of my life”. During this short but agonizing war, the Jewish people once again ruled Sinai Peninsula, the Gaza Strip, the West Bank,East Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights. The ending results of the war still affect the geopolitics of the region to this day. Even though The Six-Day War reunited Jerusalem with its people the Israel-Arab conflict still remained elusive.
On October 26, 1973, on the Jewish holy day Yom Kippur, Egyptian and Syrian soldiers caught the Jewish civilians completely off guard by ceasing fire on the border lines of Sinai and Golan heights, which Israel just fought for during the Six-Day War. Backed by the United Nations, Israel was able to push Syrian troops out of Golan Heights and was also able to cut off the persistent Egyptian armies at the border. Which started out as a crucial fight for land, the Yom Kippur War also paved the way to some peace between Arab countries and Israel. Soon after this long, drawn out battle events like Egypt's Infitah Policy and the Camp David Accords took place. The Camp David Accords led to the breaking off of Egypt from the Soviet Union and was also the first time an Arab nation recognized Israel as a state in itself. The Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty was officially signed in Washington D.C on March 26, 1979.
Although Israel was finally recognized as a state by one Arab country, they are still hated by many others, leading to the first Intifada. The first Intifada was a massive Palestinian protest against all existing Israeli control. This vast uprising of force toward the Jews began in the Jabalia refugee camp, located in the northern end of the Gaza Strip, and immediately spread through Gaza, East Jerusalem, and the West Bank. These actions against Israel by the Palestinian mainly consisted of random acts of violence and civil disobedience. The angry Palestinians felt like they can get back at the Israelis by also boycotting Israeli made products, graffiti, throwing stones toward Israeli Defense Forces, and building barricades. During this intifada and also to this day, several Israeli and Palestinians civilians are killed in this heart filled desire for land and power.
There has been some major attempts to finally bring peace between these regions, one of them being the signing of the Israel- PLO historic Middle East peace accord. The signing took place in the White House, overlooked by former United States President Bill Clinton. Representatives of Israel and the Palestine signed the agreement for peace. Yasser Arafat, chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization, veagly shook hands with Yitzak Rabin, the Israeli Prime Minister. Even though both nations signed this new treaty of peace, they both realized the amount of work that must be put into resolving this long conflict, and if they will be ever able to.
