THE DEATH PENALTY
“Eighty-six countries have abolished the death penalty, including most of Europe, and many other countries that have it on books don’t actually use it.”
“Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.” – The Eighth Amendment
Is the death penalty really necessary' I mean, putting them to a life sentence will give them the same fate, but will also give them a chance to change their life around. As said in the article, the way they kill people is absolutely against what the eighth amendment states. It may not be cruel at first glance, but when you read more it shows that the three step process of killing someone is sometimes mistreated and the first step, the sedative, is not given in full doses and thus making the penalty extremely painful, making it cruel. The death penalty is outrageous and the way they kill people is even worse.
The other unfortunate chance is that if you were framed and found guilty of a crime that served a death penalty. If the death penalty was abolished, and he was given a life sentence, then maybe his loved ones could find solid evidence that could show that he really wasn’t the murderer. This is one of just many good things that can come out of taking away the death penalty.
If a death penalty had to be used then the best way to kill someone as humane as possible in my opinion is to kill him or her in a way that would be instant or near instant.
Another thing the US can do is construct a prison that is meant for death-sentenced people to live in temporarily and see what others mistakes have been and maybe seek to forgive the victims and the victims loved ones.
As smith states, “Death is Death…If they stick a needle in your arm or shoot you in the head, it’s cruel and inhuman punishment, and taking a human life a life sentence is a whole lot worse, its torture.” I strongly agree with what smith says because think if you were in his situation, would you be able to live with knowing that you are going to die on a certain date' If there were me I would go insane. It is very cruel, going against the eight amendments.
In conclusion, in my opinion there will be more good things that come from taking away the death penalty for the individual and society, as a whole then there would be from keeping it.
