Ryan Connor April, 20th, 2010 Ms. Gonzalez 7th/8th hour Three-Pointed Doom Some people say that the Bermuda Triangle is a random coincidence. If this was a coincidence this was the most deadly and reoccurring coincidences of all time. Over 2075 ships and planes have disappeared in this triangle of doom (Lethurin, Vance). No one can honestly say that this many planes and ships can have disappeared just because of plain coincidence. There is an underlying mystery in this triangle that will possibly never be discovered in this odd stretch of ocean that has claimed so many lives. The Bermuda Triangle is a 440,000 square mile stretch of ocean (“Bermuda Triangle”). All the points on the triangle are pieces of land. One corner is the island of Bermuda, hence the title the Bermuda Triangle. Another point is Miami, Florida. So as you can see the Bermuda Triangle is right off the coast of the United States, which makes this mystery well known to us. Finally, the third point of the Bermuda Triangle is San Juan, Puerto Rico (“Bermuda Triangle”). This triangle is placed at a spot that makes it unfortunate for America. Florida is a popular tourist state and Miami is one of the most popular cities in Florida. A lot of people visit Miami annually. The Bermuda Triangle is right of the coast of Miami. That means any tourist coming from the east of the U.S. is most likely going to pass through the Bermuda Triangle, which puts anyone who comes into Miami is at risk of this triangle of death. One of the most famous disappearances was this ship of the USS Cyclops it was very renowned and all over the news (“Bermuda Triangle”). Another famous disappearance was Navy Flight 19 (Levy, Joel). The first person to document abnormalities in the Bermuda Triangle was possibly one of the most famous explorers of all time, Christopher Columbus (“Bermuda Triangle”). He said his compasses were malfunctioning and balls of fire were observed on the horizon (“Bermuda Triangle”). Considering he discovered a new continent, he is a pretty reliable source. One of the things he reported was his compasses were malfunctioning. Other explorers have reported this also. Some theories about this problem is that the Bermuda Triangle is one of the only places in the world that points to true north. Most compasses point to magnetic north. Now this could pose a problem because compasses are what most ships use as the main tool for keeping direction. This could also explain why many more ships disappear than airplanes. So if a ships sense of direction is lost than it could go to a different location, and run into trouble and disappear. Now of all the theories this one is one of the most well known and accepted because one, it is logical and not too farfetched as to say a secret monster hides there and eats ships and airplanes as some imaginative people may say, and two, it is an explanation that people like to hear. It is because this answer gives an explanation to this mystery, which is what people want. Also, it still leaves the Bermuda Triangle with the mystery factor people like to enjoy, because when people hear this they go which leaves the Bermuda Triangle still a mystery, yet explained. Yet, just because this theory is the most accepted does not mean that this is right. But, if this mystery is ever explained you bet that no matter what someone will eventually reveal a new theory and this mystery will become just as mysterious as it is right now. The Bermuda Triangle has been known to take at least 1000 people who have disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle never to be seen again (Lutherin, Vance). So this might just not only be the most mysterious phenomenon, but also one of the most deadly, life wrecking and tragic mystery of all time. Now yes, some people have made it through the Bermuda Triangle. In fact a lot of people probably have, but then again a lot of people get cancer but because not all of the people who get cancer have died, should we not regard it as an issue' So just because not everyone who travels through the Bermuda Triangle doesn’t die, that doesn’t mean that the entire being of the Bermuda Triangle should be removed as an issue, because even though not everyone dies it still does kill. Think about how many families have been wrecked by this triangle, how many dreams have been crushed, and how many kids have cried because of this mystery. Hopefully to stop the pain people will eventually just stop traveling through this death zone. If they do it could stop a lot of people from disappearing and hopefully many lives to be saved. People would be happy to spend an extra hour in the airplane to save the rest of their lives. Because you know the saying it is better to be safe than sorry, or worse, end up at the bottom of the ocean lying with the fishes the rest of your existence with the other 1000 people who have disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle There are countless numbers of theories out there just like with every mystery. This mystery could never be explained or it could be explained next week. Yet, if this is just one big coincidence than this is one coincidence that has occurred over and over again. Knowing how many times this has happened I wouldn’t be surprised if this “coincidence” will keep occurring until people will just stop traveling through it all together. So get your life vest and buckle you seatbelts you are now entering the Bermuda Triangle!
