  Jessica Harrison Casual Analysis November 6, 2010 “Protection Is The Way To Go!” Teen Pregnancy has been a problem when it comes to children in the United States. The causes of teen pregnancy have come to a conclusion; the parents are not watching their children. The more independence kids get, the more they think they can do what they please. Becoming pregnant at such a young age causes more maturity, and responsibilities, along the way. The United States is the highest rate of teen births. These births cost over $7 billion dollars in the US. In the 1990’s it states that the rates have decreased since then because they’re teaching children more about safe sex and how to prevent this issue. In today’s society more and more young teenagers are not getting the certain tips and talks of what they need to prevent pregnancy. The teens are not getting help from their parents because the parents are talking to their children less. Also teens are seeing sexual violence and videos on television which is causing the teens to think it is alright to have sex because of what is shown in the public’s eye. Teens also do not understand the protection to use to prevent pregnancy. Condoms are not being used when needed because some teens do not understand what to do with them. Teenagers do not know how to properly use the condoms and pills, but some choose to have the protection but not use it. This leads to consequences and more maturity and responsibilities. They have to wake up, realize the reality, and take responsibilities for their actions. Teens that become pregnant have a higher chance of not being able to graduate from High School or attend College. Between 1991 and 2005 teen pregnancy was at its highest due to not enough education about sex. Starting off in 2005, the rate was at its lowest in 30 years. As 2006 came along the rate had increased with a rising of 3% in a decade. Teenagers younger than 20 years old in 750,000 women became pregnant in the year of 2006. From the ages of 15-19 years old 7% of teens had a rate of 71.5 pregnancies per 1000 women. The abortion rate in 2006 was lower than the rate in 1988. But the rate became higher by 1% from the 2005 rate. Among African American teens the rate fell by 45% between the 1990’s and 2005 before the rate increased in 2006. White teenagers rate decreased about 50% before it increased in 2006. Hispanic teenagers decreased by 26% between 1992 and 2005 before it had increased in 2006. From most of the race and ethnic groups the birthrates decreased in 2006 in about a decade. Starting in 2009, the pregnancy rate was 46.6 per 1000 women. Teens from the ages of 15-19 years old dropped pregnancy in 2009 after several years went by. Also the teen abortion rates became lower. Women from the ages of 15 to 44 years are having fewer abortions than the usual. In the end of 2009 the rate of teen pregnancies dropped since 2008. The effects teenagers have to worry about after their decision they had made leads to higher prices and costs. Children are expensive when it comes to having another person in this world. It may sound easy but in reality it is hard with prices. For babies they need multiply purchases of diapers and formula which are the most expensive pieces for toddlers. And the clothing takes a lot of your money because once the babies start growing you have to keep purchasing new clothes each time. The time and effort you have to put in for the child leads to not having the time to put in for school. Also other priorities you need to survive and have a good future in life. You have to rely on others than yourself because the child is dependent by you and your partner, if that partner is there to help. Your partner and you have to participate in certain goals and priorities to make sure the baby has everything they need. A set schedule would be needed just to make sure you have the skills to receive everything for your child that they need. Stress becomes a big issue when in the stages of teen pregnancy. Some people may not want to be friends with you any longer due to no more fun and communicating time. Parents will be pushing the teens harder and make them have more responsibilities and become more mature to face their new lives. The partners become stressed and sometimes may not be able to handle the responsibilities they have which leads to them leaving the situation. The causes of teen pregnancy lead to a variety of effects due to more and more of parents not helping their teenagers learn these things at a younger age. This leads to the children not knowing the facts about sex and how to be safe to prevent situations from happening.
