Axia College is a place where anyone can receive a quality education, while at the same time continuing to pursue their careers. As with all colleges, academic honesty is held at the highest standard and dishonesty will not be tolerated. The college is straight forward and with anything, keeping a list of goals will make for a smooth transition. The same goes with the management of your time, having goals and self motivation will become critical throughout. Reading and writing will occupy a large amount of your online time. Axia College has all of the resources needed to become successful as I will point out. Finding the right learning styles and applying them to your work also has strengths. Unlike traditional schools, you do not have the typical lectures from instructors. It is up to you to gain an understanding through your comprehension of what is read. Axia online school offers a vast ocean of resources available to students. Once logged into the Online Learning System (OLS) look to the top of your screen, you will see tabs labeled home, classroom, library, program, and accounts, click on library to go into the University Library. The Center for writing excellence (CWE) (within the library tab) is a one stop spot of any questions involving your writing skills. For those who struggle with mathematics, the Center of Mathematics Excellence (CME) is located at the top tab bar right next to the CWE. See the examples below. These tools are absolutely essential for great quality papers. Use them often. You will find these tools by clicking on the library tab. The first tab at the top of the screen (Within the library) says University Library. Once you click on it, various databases will appear. The write point system is a useful tool for people who are not high up on the grammatical totem pole. It enables them to submit a paper with confidence and reassurance. The fact that it is automated will allow the user to save valuable time completing valuable work, rather than spending time manually configuring their paper. Having the ability to have proof readers back up your paper is a great tool. You can have friends proof read for you as well. Tutorials and guides along with the plagiarism checker will make sure your time at Axia College is as smooth as possible. Inside of the Library on the left hand side of the screen you will see a variety of options. Anything you need help with will be within those options. The menu on the left hand side of the page is what you will see after you click on the CWE tab inside the library. The University Library contains three major credited research databases. The databases listed in Major are EBSCOHost, Gale PowerSearch, and Pro Quest. EBSCOHost opens up with a similar style of page as your typical internet search engine, and contains 8,000 periodicals and over 4,000 peer reviewed journals. Beginning at the top next to the search box there is an option allowing you to choose databases by allowing you to add topics or remove. Being able to choose the kind of information your search engine will find is amazing and fast. It does not matter what subject you are studying, you will find what you are looking for with EBSCOHost. Gale PowerSearch has 13,000 periodicals and more than 6,000 peer reviewed journals. The basic search engine can be limited down to peer-reviewed source to help save time rather than going through everything. There is a lot of information, including banking, financial reports, foreign policy, etc. Gale PowerSearch covers all areas of study. ProQuest focuses with periodicals from well known newspapers such as the New York Times, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal. There are many other periodicals ProQuest covers; those are a few that stick out to me. The article database-Specialized is exactly that, it is specialized with a more broken down list of databases that will fit our needs. It contains a wide variety of information from demographics to business references. If you want to find information about economics, the specialized database has a database based solely on economics. Let’s say you want to find how businesses operate, the specialized database has a database solely on business insights. These are just a few to note, you will see that there are many more databases available. There is something for everyone in the University Library and I hope it helps you succeed with convenience. Academic honesty is held as one of the highest of importance; dishonesty can lead to instant failure and prevent a student from learning valuable material needed for success in the workforce. One way to help prevent dishonesty is the plagiarism checker. The Plagiarism Checker can be a useful tool to assure yourself the highest possible grade without the fear of your instructor suspecting unoriginality. You can also use it in case your paper does sound unoriginal even if you did not plagiarize. Nothing would be worse than to turn in a paper you spent tireless hours on only to be suspected of plagiarism. Sounds like a good tool to have for those just in case rather be safe than sorry situations. It can be found within the University library under the CWE. Academic honest is absolutely crucial, while you may think your helping yourself, the only thing you will do is make yourself look foolish in the work place. Time management is another process that is crucial for success in college. One who can manage their time wisely will have more of a stress free experience. Even with a job people have managed to put out some great work. Prioritizing with an agenda or calendar will ensure your time is being spent doing what needs to be done. Avoiding procrastination will calm the stress bugs. Thirty dedicated hours of study a week is the best way to stay on top. As long as work and school is kept at the utmost of importance, you cannot go wrong. Reading comprehension in all colleges is important, however, online college requires even more comprehension of what is read. Concentration is a must if you plan to make a successful comprehension. If you are thinking about what you are going to make for dinner while reading, chances are the information will not stick. Read over information twice, even if you feel there is an understanding. Participating in the review quizzes within the text books are there for a reason, use them often. Never hesitate to ask yourself or an instructor a question while reading unfamiliar material. Surveying, questioning, reading, reciting, and reviewing (SQ3R) is a method used to help make reading comprehension more convenient. (Ch. 5 p. 156 week 6 readings) Use the method in the exact order and you will instantly know and feel the difference. The method, which discovered by Francis Robinson 60 years ago, is still effective today. (Ch 5 p 165) Using this method properly will ensure a successful comprehension of unfamiliar material. In college certain types of personalities learn materials in different ways (learning styles). Determining which personality for learning you have, will make all of the difference. With online education, Verbal linguistic personalities usually have the smoothest transitions. However, people with other learning styles can do just fine as well. Knowing what learning style you have will save time and reduce stress. The other types of learning styles include: Logical mathematical, Bodily-Kinesthetic, Visual-Spatial, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, Musical, and Naturalistic. Mastering all or at least gathering a brief understanding will dramatically improve your college career. The best way to develop these different types of intelligence is to practice. Practice makes improvement. Connecting with other people who do not share the same style of learning as you can be tricky. The best way to co-exist with people who have different learning patterns is to learn all of the styles, and to have patience along with an opened mind. Patience brings good things.
