The definition of a teacher, to me, is a person who provides schooling for others, someone who makes it easy for an individual student to understand the subject. He/She may also be a personal tutor for the learner.
It is an ongoing job that shouldn’t be taken lightly because it deals with students who are in need of certain knowledge to survive in this economy.
A teacher can also be expected to act as a substitute parent, with all the normal forms of parental discipline open to them. As a teacher we have the right to use positive reinforcement which is balanced with immediate and fair punishment for misbehavior conduct.
A teacher is a person who cares enough about the youth dedicated to prepare, educate and to help them get a head start in life in the institutions in which they will work.
Some belief statements that guide my actions as an instructor are visions for the future. All students are given the same and equal opportunity to use their individual strengths to become successful students and citizens.
Purpose of education whether one believes that our society is in trouble or not, education must continue to prepare students to be functional, academically and morally, in our democratic society. Education must not forget that administrators and teachers are role-models. For many students, this is the only source of adult guidance they will see.
The community and the school district are both equal stake holders in the education process. The primary relationship they must share is the vision that all students can learn at higher levels. Community and school policy must support ongoing improvements, high student academic and moral standards. Education's connection to social services and public, political, business involvement is essential.
Importance of learning should be based on how people are taught. Since students are learning all the time it is the responsibility of education to ensure all students are challenged at the higher levels.
The purpose and value of curriculum serves three basic purposes, determination of what students are expected to learn, describing how students are expected to learn it, and put into writing the school district's vision of education. This means we must have the finest, possible materials and plans on paper and have teachers who will turn the course into reality.
The teacher is the cornerstone of the educational system. New reforms are changing the system of rules, roles, and relationships that govern the way time, people, knowledge, and technology are used. It will be the teacher who will make sense of these changes for the students. What the teacher gets the student to do is paramount. The teacher must become a mutual member of school change and in the classroom to become an inventor of engaging work.
Interaction of Teachers and Administrators Mandating site-based decision making does not necessarily bring about collaborative change. If a school district is to be successful teachers, principals, superintendents, and school board members must become focused on developing the capacity of students. The teacher is the real leader of the school. The teacher must guide, role-play, invent, and provide an environment of higher level learning. Therefore, the administrator becomes a leader of leaders, who does not have to make decisions but is the change agent who can cause decisions to be made. The school board's role is to keep the community informed of the educational climate of the school.
For some new teachers, they have to understand creating all your lesson plans, class materials, learning activities, and compare them back to state standards, and do this for every course preparation they have. It is easy to see why so many teachers “give up” within the first two years of teaching. They don’t have enough time in the school day to accomplish much. Classes are short, classes are large, and teachers get frustrated as they try to fit in important lessons and activities in each period.
A difficult parent is an objection that we have to get through because parental involvement in education at home and in the classroom is vital to effective learning and discipline. Parental support can improve your outcomes immensely. If parents back a teacher’s discipline of a student, and the parent restricts privileges at home, the teacher notices real improvements in the student so in reality parents do make a vast difference.
To make Adequate Yearly Progress, schools must make sure that every single group of students, including students who have learning disabilities or who do not speak fluent English, meets the same AYP goals. This is a very tough challenge. If even one group does not meet the goals, our school cannot make AYP. Some examples of AYP include attendance, parental involvement, and student laziness.
One of the things that I would like to see from the state board to us is to consider recently arrived Lep students shouldn’t be holding accountable for results of any of the state mandated testing. Count them as participants but do not include their scores to use in AYP decisions.
