Moses, Student Dana Hall, Professor | Teacher Advocacy | |i) You are presenting a speech in front of your State Board of Education as a teacher advocate in the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) educational | |environment and in an era of educational accountability for student learning. | |(1) Provide for them your definition of a teacher. Include 12-15 belief statements around education that guide your actions as a teacher. | |(2) Discuss at least five challenges that affect you as a professional educator, including Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) issues mandated by No | |Child Left Behind (NCLB). | |(3) Explain the tools that your State Board of Education can provide to help you succeed in the classroom as you implement NCLB policies. | My definition of a teacher: #1 A role model in the community, school, family A teacher should be a leadership skills and a encourager. Teachers should be great listeners and watch the flow of the class I try to make myself available for the students and someone they can trust. A teacher gives respect and also gets respect. A teacher knows how to educate all students from different levels. Making learning fun. A teacher will know when there is student having troubles and attempt to resolve issues. A teacher needs to be totally committed to his/her profession. I teacher should have the attitude they want to help change someone's life. A teacher should always have a kind word to share. Teachers hold a place high like a Pastor. Teachers should be open for change. 5 Challenges-#2 Pressured to teach the materials at a faster pace and sometimes children are left behind. Have problems with Parents not understanding teaching practices and not supporting their children. There are constant changes in the curriculum issued for teaching. Having students come to school unprepared, and misbehaving, the teachers are at a disadvantage. Having teachers be very qualified in their field. There is much more to teaching than just having a degree. #3 The one thing the State Board of Education can help out in the classroom with the teachers is, teachers need more time to teach the necessary subjects. The other thing that could help is there is so much stress put there as far as going at a fast pace, making sure we can have assistants to help out with children who learn at a much slower pace.
