As I go through my program at the University of Phonenix, I realize that a Student Survival Guide is necessary for my success. It will work as a quick reference when I need to refer to the material that I have used before. Gen 105 provided valuable information that helped me to familiarize myself with the online learning environment. The educational resources were very helpful because they offered information as well as tutorials with step by step learning. I found the different grammar mechanics to be very important since it's been a while when I first learned grammar. They provided a detail of the different grammar concepts such as commas, comma splices, apostrophes, capitalization, semi-colons and colons. After reading upon each concept a quiz was given to test how much of the information was retained. I was able to understand how much I needed to study the information to prepare me to write effective papers. I was also able to learn more about downloading pertinent information from the website. The course readings are usually in Adobe Acrobat Reader which is helpful when I need to save it for later use. It allowed me to download the material and read it offline when I transitioned away from an internet connection. The University of Phoenix Library resources makes it very easy to navigate through the library. There are tutorials available to show all the services that the library provides. The Center for Writing Excellence is helpful to check the similarity index for plagairized material. The best part about the service is how fast I was able to get my papers returned. Writepoint is also helpful to check to see if I had any grammatical errors that needed to be changed prior to turning my paper in. This course has also shown me how to find the important points in an article. This was helpful when I didn't have much time, I could find the bolded words or headlines and read the information presented right after and I would usually get an understanding of that entire paragraph. Academic honesty is very important in school and in the work environment. It is necessary to give credit to the author of any work. They have worked very hard on their writings and they deserve to be given credit. i have learned that when I retreive information that is not my own that I must cite the source with a reference page. The CWE provides samples of the different types of APA formats that I can used whether I get the information from a book, internet source, or newspaper article. The University has developed an Academic Honesty Policy that explains academic dishonesty and the consequences if a student doesn't abide by the rules. It is important for students to comply with the rules so that they won't get expuled from school. It wasn't until I started taking classes with the University when I realized how important my long-term and short-term goals are to me. I was able to write them out and make other short-term goals to consider prior to accomplishing my long-term goals. I realize that I want to be able to finish my courses and learn more about websites in order to start my own online business. I must also learn about the financial aspects of this type of business. I realize that my degree will ensure that I have all of the capabilities to be successful in owning a business and my customers will be confident in getting services at my business. Managing my time has been a challenge. Since I work a full-time job and take online courses, I found it stressful to manage my time. I thought the daily planner was helpful since I was able to write out my schedule and compare what was necessary and what wasn't. I found that I actually needed more recreational time since my day consisted of mostly work and school. The SQ3R was something new to me. I found it to be useful since I never really considered how to read and retain things in the past. I learned to first survey the selection and then question it for it's validity. The most important part of the SQ3R was the information on retaining what I read. I was the type of reader that read something and forget about what I read not very long after. When I need to take test in the future I can refer to the SQ3R to help me to remember what I learned.I enjoyed learning about my personality. Learning about myself will help me to recognize my strenghts and weaknesses so that I know how to take a better approach. I learned that my strongest multiple intelligence is logical/ mathemetical. This is helpful for any individual when they are considering job types. I currently work in a position where I perform data entry daily without any issues.
