Summary

Communication Quality Report #1 The following article I did my report on was from Las Angeles Times on January 31, 2011. (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/babylonbeyond/2011/01/israel-is-the-us-attitude-to-egypt-a-message.html) This article “Is US attitude to Egypt a message” is especially interesting because it is reflected upon the recent activities in Egypt, but coming from the perspective of hierarchy and the people in Israel. Since these recent events, the U.S position on Egypt has taken Israel by surprise and have left many people wondering what the Americans are doing and what this means for the allies in the region, including Israel. This article explains how Israelis feel about America’s position with Egypt and it also gives feedback from President Barack Obama. When examining this article it portrays scientific inquiry. This articles primary method is observation to a narrowly tailored audience and with a goal of discovering valid information. However when reading over the discussion board that is where low quality communication appears. This discussion board resembles a deliberative inquiry to discuss the topic at hand, but it is not a very good one. Deliberative inquiry is often to focus and develop a base and move forward in solving a problem. This discussion board’s main focus is on the individual that is writing the comment. It lacks any sort of deliberation that plays off one another’s comment. The common ground for a deliberative inquiry is to improve clarification of the choices and consequences, in which there is little to no appearance of this. There is one instance where Lago Linden tried to start some sort of deliberation with Mr. Bricano’s comment, however it did not escalade to anything and remained as an individual comment. In order to make this discussion more productive these message board activists needs to start playing off of each other’s comments. Also there is no focus on one point, there are many good ideas and opinions floating around in the discussion board but never does a person stick to that topic and play off each others opinions. Overall this is an example of low quality communication. It as a strong scientific article with many facts and quotes, but then it leads to a discussion board that is cluttered and has no main focus.
