The Transfiguration Skit!!! Characters: Peter James John (Gradually walking across the stage towards campfire) Peter: Man! I can’t stop thinking about the other day up the mountain with Jesus. What did that all mean John' John: Yeah Peter, it was pretty crazy. James: Yeah my muscles still hurt from that hike; did he have to pick the tallest mountain'! Peter: Your thinking about the mountain; your thinking about the hike. Are you serious! Were you blind or something' James: Oh yeah of course I was blind! Didn’t you see his clothes! (All seated by now) John: Na guys serious… what was that all about' (Pause) I thought Jesus took us up there to pray' But then he just… you know, like.. Changed James: Before our own eyes! I mean, we’ve seen some miraculous and powerful miracles during our time with Jesus. Like when Jesus feed 5000 men not even counting all the women and children! Oh and I’ve lost count of how many people have been healed through his majestic power. Peter: Yeah but this one was on its own level. His face shone kind of like the sun. And then I blinked my eyes and he had changed his robs had changed as well James: mmmmm they were so white! Peter: They were whiter than bleach =D (Pulls bleach bottle out to emphasize whiteness) James: Yeah my eyes still hurt, he pretty much became light John: That’s like the story of Moses. When he came down from Mt Sinai with the 10 commandments, remember, it says his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord. Peter: Well John, didn’t you see Moses standing next to him. Oh and Elijah was there too. John: Of course I saw them; it just took me a while. Jesus’ brightness woke me up. But why those two with Jesus, what importance do they have to this event' James: Well I guess Moses would represent the law Peter: …and Elijah the prophets John: Yeah, oh and didn’t each of them have an encounter with God on mountains as well. Moses it was Mt Sinai and Elijah Mt Horeb. And what were they talking to Jesus about' All I heard was something about Jesus’ departure from Jerusalem. Peter: Well where is he going' John: Maybe Heaven' Moses and Elijah departed to Heaven in miraculous and kind of freaky ways. Moses never lefts a known grave and Elijah hitched a ride on chariots. James: They were on fire!! Now that’s a mint ride. (Nudge person next to you) John: Dude what the heck we’re you thinking Peter, suggesting your dumb idea to Jesus. Were you trying to earn brownie points after Jesus called you Satan in front of everyone' James: What was up with that, out of all the things you could have suggested you chose building three shelters for each' One for Moses, on for Elijah and one for Jesus. Peter, you shouldn’t have put Jesus on the same playing field of them. He’s the Son of God not another prophet. Peter: I was terrified! Jesus, the guy we’ve been following completely transfigured in front of us. We were in the presence of the Holy God. I didn’t see you coming up with anything Einstein' James: Well I was concentrating more on the massive cloud forming around us. And then just to top it of, like I wasn’t freaking out enough. BOOM. A booming voice from the cloud spoke at us. Peter: It was so incredible; I’ve never heard anything like it. It was louder than any thunder I’ve ever heard – it spoke right to my heart. “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to Him.” John: Guys do you reckon that was God' James: In the books of the law every time God turned up in this way, whether on a mountain top or in the tabernacle, there was always a cloud of smoke. So it must have been God. Peter: Remember what people have said about Jesus’ baptism' As he came out of the water a voice came from heaven saying nearly the same thing. “This is my Son, whom I love, with you I am well pleased.” James: Oi wait, remember that prophesy in Deuteronomy we were studying in the temple last week' (flick through book to find passage) Here it is! Deuteronomy 18:15 - “The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to him.” And he emphasizes this in vs 18 “I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him.” John: (really shocked) OH MY GOSH! Are you thinking what I’m thinking James' James: I think I am brother! John: Jesus is the fulfilment of (James joins in) the PROPHECY! Peter: Then to top of the whole experience, on the way down he mentions rising from the dead again. What does he mean when he says this.
