Going back to College for some people can be very difficult. Many people in today’s world struggle with college because they do not know how to utilize the resources available to them. I have created a student survival guide that will help me achieve success and help me throughout my education at Axia College. By taking advantage of the resources provided by Axia College, ones education can develop and become top notch. Using Axia’s Educational Resources is very important to anyone who is writing a paper or completing an assignment. The option to download appendixes in an audio format definitely improves my educational experience. The audio appendix gives me an opportunity to listen to the script instead of just reading it. It is definitely more convenient especially in today’s world. Almost everyone has an IPod or MP3 player they can download the appendixes to, making it easier and more convenient to listen to one’s lesson. Axia College made it very easy to navigate the University Library. Learning how to navigate and become familiar with the online library can be very helpful and useful. There are so many ways one can search for different subjects and materials on the university library. It is very important to identify key information within the articles. For example, the author’s name, keyword search, and the database where the article was found must all be used in academic writing. Understanding Axia’s academic honesty policy is very important and should be taken very seriously by every student. Plagiarism is not acceptable anywhere. Plagiarism is dishonest because it is considered stealing and it will not be tolerated. The author spent hard work and time writing the article and for one to claim it as ones own work is dishonest and carries major consequences. Students who plagiarize work without giving the author proper credit will fail the class and will be reported to the University. Students can also be removed from the University for Plagiarism. Avoiding plagiarism is a must and it is very easy to do. One must always use the plagiarism checker after writing an academic paper to make sure plagiarism has not occurred. The plagiarism checker is a great tool to use and must always be used. If plagiarism has occurred one must give the author proper credit by citing the authors work on ones paper. Other forms of academic dishonesty include buying ones academic paper from another student or having someone else do the work for you. Setting goals throughout ones college career is very important. Setting goals gives you an advantage of planning ahead and helps you become better prepared. One must plan today for the future and be prepared. Being prepared for the future that is ahead of you is a very smart thing to do. One must set short term goals and those short term goals will lead one into long term goals. Regardless of how easy or difficult ones short or long term goals are one will always come across obstacles. One must adjust and make changes when the obstacles arrive. That means things may have to be changed and one must change the long term goal by adjusting their short term goals. Having an Axia degree is definitely part of my short term goal which opens doors for my long term goals. Managing time wisely is a key to success in college. One must balance time between courses at Axia College. One must make a schedule and make sure they are not dedicating more time to one course. It is always hard for one to go to work, take care of ones family and go to school. One must make a weekly checklist to help them stay organized and make sure that they are on top of their priorities. I believe that by making a weekly checklist, one can stay more organized and avoid wasting time. One must make sure they are using their time wisely and prioritizing between what is important and what is not. One must develop techniques that will help them become successful readers. Always try different methods of reading and notice which of those methods you feel more comfortable with. When reading a text, one must survey the text for main points throughout the article. Make sure to ask questions that are related to the text. Always re-read the material and answer the questions that were previously asked. Remember to take notes of any section that are highlighted or meant to stand out to the reader. Review the material and if there are still questions, make sure that you repeat the steps. Developing a reading habit can be very helpful. It is very important to know your own strength and always work on improving and getting better at it. The SQ3R can help one grasp the concept of the reading material. One should always use the SQ3R because it is a very valuable tool to have and use. Everyone has their own learning abilities and the way they apply it to distance learning. Some people like to study outside and others indoors. I learn better when I am moving around and reading a loud. By knowing ones personal strengths one can apply it to their studying habits as well as helping ones classmates in the areas they are weak in. Knowing the strengths of ones classmates is very important and very helpful. They might have a strong area that one may be weak in. Working together can be very beneficial and also develops team work when team members utilize their strengths and weaknesses. Overall College can really be a challenge for many individuals. Knowing how to manage ones time and using the resources provided by the University can really set you apart from the rest. The more one understands and takes advantages of all the resources provided, the better his or her experience will be. Always take advantage of the tools and resources provided by the University. The tools and resources are there to help you become a better student.
