Being a musician and an engineer sometimes made it complicated to maintain a balance, but it also is interesting how one could complement the other. However the balance grew harder as I moved up the classes and eventually took a toll on my grades since the second year of my Engineering undergrad studies, courtesy my world tour with my band. As time went by, my ability to balance between these two augmented making my 300 and 400 level courses attain twice as better grades than my 200 level courses. An engineering background I believe provides me with commendable analytical ability and aptitude which is kernel in designing any entrepreneurial model. Academically, concepts like business environment, market research, financial procurements and allocations might not have been a part of my curriculum but my thesis on the cell phone application for my university, that I developed involved an amalgamation of marketing research with peripherals of survey, data collection, statistical analysis, qualitative and quantitative analysis. After I finished my major, I was hired by an International Gateway company Novotel Ltd where I work as a system engineer. My job description involves VOIP call provisioning, call routing and data communication. I would also like to mention that my office trained us on CCNA and I am currently studying to sit for the CISCO Certification Examination. Having said that, now I am willing to take my career to a different height where I will be able to combine my aptitude, skill and kernel passion in an entrepreneurial sect which being the sole reason behind my interest on the Masters course in Lund University on Entrepreneurship. This course would enable me to take my career to a whole new dimension where I can incorporate my passion for music with business and eventually open up a music label in my country. Although it is a major change of study discipline at this stage of my life, but I strongly believe I have all it takes to realize this change and gain from it. In fact, my current progression with my music career, managing my band, developing its brand image, negotiating for the shows, holding the band together and ultimately staging the show all require skills which are very integral for an entrepreneur, which I will be discussing further in the next few paragraphs. I have been training in North Indian Classical Music for the last 15 years, although I have an eclectic taste in music. Being a professional musician for the last 4 years, I have made respectable footing and connections in the music industry. I have financed my undergrad education single handedly through my shows, journalism and hosting corporate event as the Master of the ceremony. Be it Music, telecommunication or agriculture, Bangladesh poses immense potential to cater which can be backed by investors and trained manpower. However, what lacks are entrepreneurs who would initiate the project and alleviate the situation towards betterment. Completing my entrepreneurial degree from Lund University, I want to come back to my country and do my bit to alleviate the situation. I have always wanted to own my company as well as never give up on my passion for music. A perfect mix seems to manufacture my own brand of guitars, which would be produced and distributed locally. The music scene in our country is now flooded with extremely talented musicians who are trying to rise up the ladder and make it big for themselves. What is even more crucial is that there are a lot more talented musicians who are not being able to climb up the ladder because of the amount of money they would have to invest into their instruments, which are all imported from abroad. The simplest of guitars, a Spanish Acoustic has to be imported from India and costs almost 8 to 10 times its production cost, of course the excise duty ads to it. Hence it becomes difficult for a lot of musicians to spend a big amount of money on good instruments. There have been instances where I had to wait for months for my relatives to come and visit us back at home and bring along my guitar with them. I feel that if I was given the opportunity and knowledge, which the Entrepreneurial degree will provide me with, would establish a guitar production facility and anchor my own brand of guitars to help the young musicians prosper and follow their dreams.
