The job interview is the one most important thing in the job interview process. There are many things that factor in when one interviews for a job such as your appearance, verbal communication, and nonverbal communication. Appearance is everything in the interview process. No one wants to hire someone who comes in to an interview in non popper attire. If you go into an interview in tank-top, sweat pants, a cowboy hat, and flip flops you’re not going to make a good impression on the interviewer and they will wonder why they are even considering you for a job with their company. Your attire will vary for the job but most of the time men should wear: Suit (solid color - navy or dark grey), Long sleeve shirt (white or coordinated with the suit), Belt, Tie, Dark socks, conservative leather shoes, Little or no jewelry, Neat, professional hairstyle, Limit the aftershave, Neatly trimmed nails, Portfolio or briefcase. Women should wear: Suit (navy, black or dark grey),The suit skirt should be long enough so you can sit down comfortably, Coordinated blouse, Conservative shoes, Limited jewelry (no dangling earrings or arms full of bracelets), No jewelry is better than cheap jewelry, Professional hairstyle, Neutral pantyhose, Light make-up and perfume, Neatly manicured clean nails, Portfolio or briefcase. There is also the issue of things you should have on you when you enter the interview room like cell phone (no one wants to be interviewing you and you get a call from your girlfriend or boyfriend), gum (you do not want to go into an interview chewing and or smacking on a stick of big red), mp3 player (you are not going to be jamming out to ACDC in the interview and there always a chance you accidently hit it and it come on) , coffee or coke ( do not go in to an interview with a tall moca latae or a 20 oz. coke it just doesn’t look professional). Another big thing in the interview process is verbal communication. Verbal communication is a big factor because you need to percent yourself very well and talk with correct grammar. You need to listen to all and any question carefully before you answer them and answer them as best as you can. Do not interrupt the interviewer at any point in the interview it could come off as if you were tiring me be a smart and undermine the interviewer and no one wants to do that because that does not come off as a good thing what so ever. You should always speak correctly and clear the interviewer does not want to keep asking what did you say' I could not hear you! And or speak up! Do not be afraid to ask a question to the interviewer, that is what they are there for. The interview process is a two way street. The interview should be 50-50. You don’t want to talk too much and come off as a loud mouth and you do not want to not talk too little and the interviewer will think you are to quite. So talk but do not talk too much and or be pushy. Make sure all you answers are consistent. You do not want to get caught up in a lie with you possible new employer and then the interviewer thinks you are a lier. Which comes to the next thing do not exaggerate or lie. As I said earlier you do not want to get caught in a lie and you do not want to make everything make you look good. The last thing that is important in the interviewing process is nonverbal communication. Nonverbal communication is a huge factor in this process because this is how you come off to the interviewer and how he perceives you. Even thought it does not seem like much and you probably do not notice it but it plays a huge factor in this process. Body posture is a big factor because if you are slumped over in the chair it does not come of well you the interviewer and he does not want someone working for him the cannot even sit in a chair correctly. Gesturing is also another part of non verbal communication in which how you gesture you hand and the rest of your body. You don’t want your arms waving all around but you want to use your hand to kind of explain what you are talking about. Eye contact is also a key thing in the interview process as well. You want to make sure you look whoever is interviewing you in the eye and in the eye. If you do this they will know that you are focused on the task at hand and are paying attention. You do not want your eyes wondering all over the room because this comes off as if you do not care about this job and that you are not paying attention at all. Your appearance, verbal communication, and nonverbal communication are just three major things that play into the interviewing process. Do not ever go into an interview unprepared because that just makes you look like you do not know what you are doing and or talking about. If you want to have an successful interview and you want the interviewer to take you seriously you will follow these three key thing to a successful interview.
