Socialism & Communism
Who wants to be under a system whereby the major means of production are “publically” owned (Political Ideals. Pg 290)' In other words, would you want to be controlled by a philosophical organization that forces and emphasizes freedom belonging to the class, and not the individual' There is no private property whatsoever, and with that being said, these couple of ideas and many more are to be defined as communism or socialism. There is no end without the beginning, and there is no effect without cause. So consequently, the roots of this infamous ideology originate from the father of communism, one of the most influential socialist or communist leaders, and the deep thinker of social based theories, Karl Marx. Marx argued upon many things such as communism was to be described as a strong belief and a political movement or motion that must be taken seriously. He does this by writing the Communist Manifesto, the documentation and fundamentals of the initiating the communist movement. In terms of the communist Manifesto, Marx stated that past occurrences are apparently the events of class difficulties or tribulations. The significance of it that he wants all of society to realize all classes have either similar of different traits on their economy and production. Therefore, there have been unnecessary disagreements and quarrels mainly about inequality (class complication). In addition to all of this explanations, I think what Marx is really trying to get at is individualism is not genuine and unfaithful; it can lead you to countless downfalls (Ideals. Pg. 206-211).
Human nature is all about cooperation and not competition to his eyes because I feel that Marx believes when there is greed among the different classes, fights are bound to erupt.

Overall, what controls these types of traits among society are their personal circumstances like the bourgeoisie and the proletariats (Ideals. Pg. 205) . Even though history may have been all about battles, there was at least one time in which everything was ok, and Marx claimed it was in the time of changing the direction of politics; trying something new perhaps.
Marx states that the bourgeoisie will be inevitably are devastated by the proletariat. But to fulfill this accomplishment, the proletariat must embark on the role of being a slave (Ideals. Pg. 210). Why a slave' It’s because wage will be decreased and capitalism and exploitation is in their ways. I must input that Marx is establishing as long as the state lives on and is in control, there is no real freedom, and vice-versa. In other words, when communism takes over, the people will then be customary and accepted to analyze the basic guidelines of public affairs. Thereafter, work will build to growing efficiency and they will intentionally or deliberately work based on their ability(Ideals. Pg. 214) . In the end, the proletariat will prevail because of they will be the revolutionaries of trying to attain a socialist or communist society in to pure existence. During the meantime, the proletariats also won the majority and minorities’ curiosity, meaning they got more help(Ideals. Pg. 215) . This ties in perfectly with the civil war, in which even though the proletariats experienced heart-wrenching defeats, in the end they consummated the bourgeoisie total lost. It seems as if most societies have been shaped by misery and hardships, which was not only negative but also positive because it benefited their society by becoming an improved community that practiced equality by the core. What I meant communism practices orders that depict fairness for everyone. Each individual gets the same type of clothing so that way no one gets jealous and there is less worries as to any upcoming altercations.
Now on to more details within the bourgeoisie (rich people) and the proletariat (working class). Marx idolizes this certain working class because they proved to him that they have
Madamba 3
reasonable conversations (how does this machinery work') and actually understand the functions of labor work, as to be compared to a bourgeoisie (how much is this' Should I buy it', drinking alcohol [example of actions]). I think Mark thinks the proletariats a bit more educated than these
fortunately wealthy human-beings. Another advantage they have against any other class is they don’t have any control, regulations, or opportunities that are mandatory to defend. Thus being said, revolution is the solution for the working class of communism. Their mission is to abolish and disintegrate the entire system and revamp it without having individual rights but class rights(Political Ideologies. Pg 133-135) .
Other reforms that Marx states in the Manifesto are to take out welfare, social security and minimum wage(Ideals. Pg. 216) . A reason why I believed he wanted to do this was because he though that these three things were the main target to aim for and get rid of due to the complexity it would bring to a communist and socialist society. It would also then help out his desired class a more convenient way of life. Rebuilding financial, collective, and civil order by ruling class will lead to (well what do you know) a proletariat revolution. Another goal of a communism is to finally dispatch class incongruity. I think Mark tried to incorporate the deceitful and backstabbing acts of the working class and how to fight their opponent with their opponents (fight evil, with evil) by supporting them at first and try to discover their weaknesses. In reality, it seems as if this could be the only way to gain the epitome of dismantling and ruling over the bourgeoisie and its capitalist community.
To throw in a little more personal opinion, I really liked what Marx had said towards the end of the text when he writes “Let the ruling classes tremble at a Communistic revolution. The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a world to win. Working Men of all countries, unite” I interpret the meaning of this quote as, once all of the workers are united and
Madamba 4
start a revolution, the world will then be ours in respect to freedom and communism or socialism. This quote seem so persuasive and compelling because it literally promotes communism in a degree to almost being a fearful threat to anyone who is not under the hands of a communist or socialist government. Honestly, it scares quite the jitter out of me because if I was to be told that face to face, I would be trembling and uneasy as to decide whether or not I want to join their side. On top
of that, I am not quite sure with the possible rules and regulations that Marx and his ideal communist society will descend upon the people, especially the working class.
Standard principles such as abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes (Ideals & Ideologies. Pg 216) ; see I really don’t need this type of rule because I typically and strongly feel that it is my right to have my own space and time. I mean wouldn’t you want to have privacy in your life instead of having to deal with anyone and everyone on your “supposed” property. Marx may think this is what freedom is really all about but I disagree on this one particular basis. Another applicable rule I disagree on is the combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries (Ideals & Ideologies. Pg 216) ; gradual abolition of the distinction between town and country, by more equable distribution of the population over the country. Why I disagree' Because what if I had a more harder and labor intensive job than someone else compared to another worker who may be working at the town or country, and still make the same much as I am, to me that is inequality at its most obvious scene. Plus, I must add that one of the biggest flaws in a communist society is that one might tend to take things for granted knowing the fact that whatever your partner has, you too will receive despite the minor or major accomplishments you had to do to earn it, and it really don’t matter. To me, that is just one lazy society in the making.

Despite some of the disagreements I have over communism, I do have a couple of agreements as well; “Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children’s factory labor in it presents form. Combination of education with industrial production.” (Ideals & Ideologies. Pg 216) I like these ideas because it came to my mind how grand and bliss life would be if education was payless instead of having to pay loans that has grown the possibility of being in debt within a capitalistic and consumerist society, just like fellow Marx had said, capitalist is one of the major reasons why societies are unstable. This brings me to another point, the idea of exploitation.
Exploitation to me is pretty much re-enacting the structure of slavery due to the fact of landlords or other bourgeoisie men and their self power to having laborers work for them or someone else (Political Ideologies. Pg 136-137). This concept also falls under the problems a “good society” will visualize and might partake in: differences and unjust differences in wealth would still exist, but the exploitation will not. Another fellow determined companion of Marx also argued and took this movement somber, which went by the name of Friedrich Engels. Engels was pretty much just the guy who coherently spoke and wrote for Marx and then promotes Marxism: group of French workers who too was a part of the progression. Engels also agrees with the fact that iron laws of the universe, such as Darwin’s’ law of Development of organic nature, are the components of the foundation(Political Ideologies. Pg 142-146). Speaking of iron laws, Engels and Marx’s definition of “materialism” differed from one another. Mark said “the materialist doctrine that men are products of circumstances and upbringing, and that therefore, changed men are products of other circumstances and changed upbringing, forgets that it is men that change circumstances and that the education himself needs educating…”(Political Ideals & Ideologies. Pg 146) I think what he said was its not all about just things but
Madamba 6
improvising and functioning with things, make productive use of them. AS for Engels, he said “we have the certainty that matter remains eternally the same in all its transformations, that none of its attributes can never be lost, and therefore, also, that with the same iron necessity that it will exterminate on the earth its highest creating, the thinking mind, it must somewhere else and at another time again product it.” (Political Ideals & Ideologies. Pg 146) This quote to me meant, people who practice change through motion can actually make a difference in re-sculpturing the universe in a place of more commonality.
In conclusion, the ideology of socialism/communism is incorporated to the ideal of democracy by having a democratic political system in which each citizen has equal rights and has the grant or liability of practicing its own religion, like having the freedom of speech. Here in America, we elect typical leaders who we feel will have the best voice in government. As for a communist country, they must only follow one religion by just one leader (all). Aside from that, capitalism also brings a connection between democracy and communism. Capitalism in democracy is basically consumerism, entertainment, pop culture, and so forth, and as for capitalism in Communism, it’s just the needs and wants of one are the needs and wants for all (Kamala). Genuinely, I am happy to live in a democracy rather than a communist government because I deeply know inside of me that freedom does exist in America, not those other countries who favor communism because they are sacrificing their self-desires for whole-desires. Which to me really does not make sense, though I respect their way of belief and culture because we all just have to accept it, (whether we like it or not) about each others way of governing the people.
