* Domestic violence (also known as domestic abuse, occurs when a family member, partner or ex-partner attempts to physically or psychologically dominate another. Domestic violence often refers to violence between spouses, or spousal abuse but can also include cohabitants and non-married intimate partners. Domestic violence occurs in all cultures; people of all races, ethnicities, religions, sexes and classes can be perpetrators of domestic violence. Domestic violence is perpetrated by both men and women.
* 22% of surveyed women reported they were physically assaulted by a current or former spouse, cohabiting partner, boyfriend or girlfriend in their lifetime. Approximately 1.3 million women and 835,000 men are physically assaulted by an intimate partner annually
* In rural areas its less populated, further away from preying eyes and so less likely to be found out
* The class more than likely living in rural areas are the upper working class and so are more likely to be victims of domestic abuse.
* It is usually male to female abuse but is some small percent of cases it is male
* Middle aged 25-35
* Can be many different cultures but mainly white Christian
* Due to the fact that people in rural areas move to rural areas to get away from people there is not as many ways that people can be found out.
* Neighbourhood watch on rural areas may help
* Due to the communities being close knit they may try to keep what happens in the village in the village.
* Health care professionals are no being called upon to try and pin point families that are going through domestic violence.
* This is more likely to be found out
* Males can also be the victim but less likely to report it due to male pride.
* Refuges set up for women who have been victims where they can stay in safety
* Setting up phone numbers where people can report it easily with different areas
* Setting up special domestic violence courts to deal with it fast
