SLR ASSESSMENT TASK 3 Sports Coaching [pic] Weighting: 30% Name: Luke Lawrence Teacher: Mrs “Grandma” Thompson Beginner Warm Up Players/Students will start by doing one slow jog around the oval to loosen up muscles to get the body warm and ready for physical activity. After the lap is complete they will perform stretches for the legs such as their hamstrings, quadriceps and calf muscles followed by stretches to the upper body around their shoulders and necks. Once basic stretches have been applied dynamic stretches will occur; Lunges – lunges help improve performance by loosening up the hips, improving leg drive and strengthening the butt and hamstrings. High knees – High Knees are enhanced to improve ankle strength and to help your hip flexor. Side Steps - Allows movement in the groin for a more movement in the legs. Butt Kicks- Improves hamstrings and Quadriceps and the ankle. Drills 1. Passing: Players line up behind 3 cones that have been set out in a diagonal line with the man with the ball 1 meter ahead of the 2nd marker and 2 meters ahead of the 3rd marker. This enhances passing backwards and timing your run, players will participate in this activity 6 times each. 2. Playing the ball: In three lines one player will run up and play the ball, another will be at dummy half and passed onto 1st receiver who then runs 10metres and goes to play the ball while the previous person who played the ball goes to dummy-half and dummy half goes to 1st receiver position. Players will run up and down the field twice in this activity. 3. In Game Situation: Players will get into pairs and their will be 1 designated defender who will try to defend the 2 attackers who are trying to score a try, this will enhance their skills to beat a player and outnumber opposition teams. Conditioning A grid will be aligned covering up the whole entire field, players will run up 10 meters to the 1st cone, drop to the ground then get back up then skip across right 10metres to the second where they will drop again to the ground, then run 10 meters forward to the 3rd and skip left 10 meters to the 4th cone etc. This will be done amongst a grid of 10 cones. Modified Game Players will split into two even teams and have a 10-15 minute game of touch football so the participants can learn how to play before competitions and work on improving their skills in a game situation. Cool down Students are to do a light jog around the oval, whilst doing the lap do light stretches and light dynamics to get the blood flowing through the muscles again. Ball skill: Players will be assigned to two separate teams in a 20mx20m square, one team will have the ball while the other defends, the aim is to pass the ball away as quickly as possible without being touched by a defender to someone else on your team, this can be turned into a game to see who gets the most passes away as touch is a quick game and requires quick thinking and quick passes. 2. Passing: Participants will line up behind 4 separate cones; the following drill is called truck and trailer. The man with the ball “truck” has a man following behind him and passes off to the man at the cone who passes it straight back to the second player the “trailer”, once you have the ball you are now the “truck” and players will continue to do this around the grid. The drill may become difficult to understand but that’s the aim of this drill as it requires alot of talk which is needed in touch to communicate. 3. Defence: 3 on 2 unlimited touch. The 3 attackers get unlimited touches to try and score a try in a 10mx10m grid against the 2 defenders. But once the attackers have dropped the ball it is a change over and they swap duties around. Conditioning Have a square area of 20x20m. All athletes line up behind one and other. The first person runs around the square and when he gets back where he started the next person in line has to try and catch him. Then first person is finished once he has done two laps but the second person continues around as the next person in line chases after him. This is continued on for 5 laps. Modified game: My modified game will basically be a game of touch although in a game of touch it is 6 on 6, but I will give the team with the ball an advantage and make it 6 on 5 touch. So, whenever you lose the ball you will have to send one player to the bench. Defenders will have to move and talk alot as the attackers have one more player on the defenders.
