How many of you have hobbies' Okay, all of you do, well Sometimes hobbies can turn into a career, just like in Rodney mullens case, Hi, my name is _______, I am going to tell you a bout Rodney mullen, one of the worlds greatest skateboarders life , and accomplishments along during his life. I have spent countless hours reasearching, as well as practicing rodneys tricks Rodney mullen is truly a well rounded person in life, business, and skateboarding. On august 17th 1968 john Rodney mullen was born , with his father, a doctor, and his mother was a stay at home mom. When Rodney got older his father didn’t want him to skateboard because he could get hurt, and he felt skating wouldn’t allow his son to accomplish any thing in life, but finally his father let him get his first skateboard in 1974 when he was eight, the terms to ride the board were that Rodney was .forced to always wear pads, second and not let skateboarding get in the way of his school –work. Over the years Rodney showed great skill at skateboarding, then he gained his first sponsership that was from inland surf shop, then when he was thirteen, he turned pro, and started taking part in professional competitions, stacy peraltas Bones brigade team offered Rodney a position on their team, and he gladly accepted. The bones brigade team was an amazing team of skateboarders in the early 1980’s headed by stacy peralta. Stacy peralta is know for discovering many of todays greatest skateboarders, such as tony hawk. Rodney has accuired many personal accomplishments during his life. Like becoming a professional skateboarder, as well as graduating from the University of florida, he majored in Bio mechanical engineering. Bio mechanical engineering is using the principles of engineering to improve the medical world in things like health care,. . Another of rodney’s personal accomplishments is that later in life Rodney got married to his current wife Traci Mullen. And Rodney has also taken the time to write his auto biography “ the mutt: how to skateboard and not kil yourself. Rodney mullen has also made his way in the business world. For example Rodney has helped create two skateboard companies, One world industries with his friend steve rocco, and two, the “A” team skateboards, which later turned into Enjoi skateboards when marc Johnson took over. Rodney currently works doing research and develepment for his current sponsor Almost skateboards. Rodney has also been featured in all the tony hawk games. With the most current one being tony hawks ride. I was unable to find rodney’s salary because skaters earn money from all their different sponors, as well as money from videos and pictures featured in magazines, and currently, some skaters are being put into video games such as EA’s Skate, and the Tony hawk brand of games. An average proffesional skateboarder can make about 1000 dollors a month from his sponsors, and an amazing skater that puts himself out there, and does everything he possibly can to make money could make a bout 20 thousand dollors a month Also Rodney’s main accomplishments come from his skateboarding career. Rodney is know in skateboarding because of the skill level of his tricks, as well as the consistency he can land them. He is currently sponsored by Almost skateboards, Tensor trucks, globe shoes, and matix clothing . Rodney has won 34 out of the 35 competions he has competed in throuought his life, the only one he lost was to his teammate, and because he competed while being sick . rodney has done the most amazing tricks that almost nobody can do, such as the darkslide. Rodney has been featured in multiple videos from around the world, and he can do just about every flat-land trick out there, Rodney is also credited with inventing the basic’s of skateboarding. Such as the ollie, where you pop the board up into the air while still keeping on the board., the kickflip, where you use the same motion as an ollie, but kick outwards spinning the board. The heelflip where, you spin the board outward using your heel, as well as pressure flips, where you use your feet to flip the board using pressure. He has made these tricks, as well as many harder variations. His hardest trick is the dark-slide, the darkslide is where you jump up flip the board, to the side with the griptape on it, then grind using the griptape side, then land it. Rodney has also come up with the term “switch”, switch is where you change your to the oppisite foot position you usually ride with. For being 43 years old, Rodney is still one of the most amazing skateboarders ever to exist. He hasn’t lost any of the trick he could do, and hasn’t had any signifigent injuries. His current skateboard setup is an almost deck, almost 50 mm wheels, tensor low’s w/ uber axles and kingpins; tensor hardware and mob griptape. Rodney is considered the king of skateboarding, also because of his ability to mix styles of skateboarding together, Video 1 Rodney infused technical skateboarding, which involves, more manuals (where you balance on two wheels), casper’s where you balance on your tail, with the board upside down and premos (where you balance on the wheels and board) like you just saw in the video, with street skateboarding, which involves more of jumping stair sets, gaps, and grinding rails and ledges, Video 2 As you can tell from that video Rodney mullen is truly the master of skateboarding Rodney mullen is an accomplished author, proffesional skateboarder, scientist, and business man, overall Rodney is truly a well rounded person.
