India Investment Environment Analysis • T 1. India’s seven Institutes of Technology, or IITs, specialize in engineering and science. They were founded in the early 1950s to speed up the country’s technological development. Today they are ranked third-best in the world for technology after MIT and Berkeley (1). 2. 职业技能:no related accurate knowledge background with it • E 1. Infrastructure Poor infrastructure is constraining it. Power cuts, water shortages, airport delays, overloaded ports, and overcrowded roads are a way of life. India’s inadequate infrastructure presents one of the biggest hurdles. E.g.Economic losses from congestion were estimated to be as high as US$6 billion in 2007. Large trucks are banned from entering some cities by day, which can add crippling delays. Ports suffer from lack of dock space and cranes, and airports from lack of warehousing. Weather conditions can worsen problems: power fails more often, traffic becomes even more congested, and goods stranded outside—due to lack of warehousing—can be ruined by rainstorms (1). 2. Here are the most popular companies of home appliances in India (3): |Samsung | |Samsung India has its head office in Delhi and 19 branches all over the country. They started their business with manufacturing of Color| |Televisions, LG Washing Machines, Air-Conditioners and Microwave Ovens and other electronics products. Till date it has gained a | |reputed name in Indian home appliances industry and serving their customers satisfactorily from past one decade. | |  | |Videocon | |There are number of Home Appliances companies in India among which Videocon is one of them who tops the list. Their domestic products | |include refrigerators of various types, microwave ovens, mixer grinder, television etc | |  | |Godrej | |Godrej is one of the prominent manufacturers of home appliances in India. Its domestic appliances products include refrigerators, | |washing machines, air conditioners and cooking ranges. Its kitchen appliances are vast such as roti maker, sandwich maker, and | |toaster. They offer full warranty on their products. | • L 1. India is member of the International Labour Organisation and complies with the convention it has ratified. It has enacted comprehensive legislations to provide a good working environement for labor and protect their interests (5). 2. Paying Taxes • Corporate Tax Foreign corporations are subject to a basic tax rate of 40& as well as a 2.5% surcharge. The effective tax rate for forign corporations is 42.23%. • Special rates for non-resident corporations 共有五项:sucah as royalty or fees for technical services, dividend income. The data below shows the tax that a medium-size company must pay or withhold in a given year, as well as measures of the administrative burden in paying taxes. These measures include the number of payments an entrepreneur must make; the number of hours spent preparing, filing, and paying; and the percentage of their profits they must pay in taxes (4). |Indicator |India |South Asia |OECD Average | |Payments (number per year) |59 |31.3 |12.8 | |Time (hours per year) |271 |284.5 |194.1 | |Profit tax (%) |25.1 |17.9 |16.8 | |Labor tax and contributions (%) |18.2 |7.8 |24.4 | |Other taxes (%) |21.4 |14.2 |3.3 | |Total tax rate (% profit) |64.7 |40.0 |44.5 | 3. India has, in the past, been identified as a “high-risk area” for theft of intellectual property (IP). But as the Indian R&D economy grows, and software design continues to be a key Indian industry, the government and leading businesses are tightening up on IP protection (1). Registering Property The ease with which businesses can secure rights to property is shown below. Included are the number of steps, time, and cost involved in registering property (4). |Indicator |India |South Asia |OECD Average | |Procedures (number) |5 |6.3 |4.7 | |Time (days) |44 |105.9 |25.0 | |Cost (% of property value) |7.4 |5.6 |4.6 | References: 1.
