Sexual Jealousy Jealousy is defined as an envious or bitter attitude. Many people experience it every day, but not many stop to actually analyze it and consider the effects of it on their outlooks of life. Hence, jealousy starts out as a small “nagging” feeling, but as it grows it can become erotic and in some cases a bit overboard. Jealousy is a normal feeling. It is natural until it becomes irrational. There are no boundaries in jealousy. It exists in all social levels, races and ages. Sexual jealousy occurs when individuals know or suspect that their partners have had (or want to have) sexual activity with a third party. Sexual jealousy is one of the most frequently reported features of violent relationships because of all it’s suspicion caused by jealousy. Suspicions among thoughts are like bats among birds. They cloud the mind, lose friends and the obstruct business, whereby business cannot go by smoothly (Francis Bacon, 1625.) Sexual jealousy is a jealousy that happens in romantic relationships. It occurs when one mate suspect that his or her partner has inappropriate emotional of physical intimacies with another person outside their relationship. Jealousy can hurt one if it is taken too seriously. Often, jealousy is casually shrugged off. However, if it persists, jealousy can break a person down. Jealousy can even cause negative results such as making a person hurt someone else. Suspicion is one of the main causes of jealousy. People can’t stand to see the person they love with someone else. Men and women have very different views when it comes to infidelity. Men typically rate sexual infidelity as more distressing while women rate emotional infidelity as more distressing. The level of distress varies depending on level of sex drive, attachment status and previous exposure to sexual infidelity. With all this having been said as preface, just what IS jealousy' In actuality, jealousy is quite difficult to define. After looking at various sources I've settled on the general definition of: a gut level pain resulting from the unpleasant fear, suspicion, or resentment arising from mistrust of another. I believe this definition provides a good point of departure in order to spell it out more fully. Sexual jealousy comes from suspicion when one doesn’t trust another and has greater impacts then people realize. It hurts and can even change a person completely so next time you decide to cheat you should think again.
