Seven Organizational Approaches Lisa C. Champagne HCA/220 July 7, 2013 Molly Frazier Seven Organizational Approaches The human body is an amazing part of being human. There are so many parts that have their own job to do to keep the body in function. There are seven approaches in organizing the way the body is divided to make us human. They consist of body planes and body directions, body cavities, quadrants and regions, anatomy and physiology, microscope to macroscopic, body systems, and medical specialties. When a patient is under the care of a physician there are certain obligations the physician has in their profession. It is their responsibility to perform the best care for their patience is such cases as tests and other diagnostic procedures. For example, if a patient is at their respiratory doctor, which would be their Pulmonologist, he/she may want an x-ray of their thoracic cavity which consists of the chest where the lungs are located. In addition, in most cases, in radiology the position that is used is defined as the “Standard Anatomical Position. In this position the patient is standing in an erect position (posteroanterior or anteroposterior) with feet together ( slightly apart) and the forearms are rotated with the palms forward and thumbs are usually moved slightly out and away from the body, so the hands do not touch the sides of the body.” (www.healthpages.org). In addition, when there is a specific origin of the body in which the physician is speaking of or labels in a patience chart there are certain terms that are appropriate in the medical language. In result, as a medical profession, understanding the body planes would be an up most importance.” A plane is an imaginary flat surface that divides the body into sections. For example, there are three main body planes which are the frontal or the coronal plane, sagittal, and the transverse. The frontal plane is a vertical plane that passes through the body longitudinally from the head to the toe, dividing it into front and back parts. The Sagittal plane is the vertical plane that passes through the body lengthwise and divides the body into right and left sides. Finally, transverse is a horizontal plane that passes through the body, dividing it into upper (superior) and lower (inferior) parts.” (Textbook of basic Nursing 2003). There are other body directions and positions such as distal which is moving from the trunk of the body toward the end of a limb and proximal is moving from the end of a limb toward the trunk of the body. The human body consists of five body cavities which consist of the cranial, spinal, thoracic, abdominal, and pelvic. A cavity is defined as a hollow space which is surrounded by bones or muscles that support the organs and structures of a cavity. In addition, the body has four quadrants and nine regions. The results are the right upper quadrant (RUQ), left upper quadrant (LUQ), right lower quadrant (RLQ), and the left lower quadrant (LLQ). The nine regions are right and left hypochondriac regions, right and left lumbar regions, right and left inguinal regions, the epigastric, umbilical, and hypogastric regions. These quadrants and regions are helpful in reference during a physical examination of internal organs. (Turley 2011) Anatomy and Physiology is how the human body can be defined. Anatomy is the study of the structures of the human body. Physiology is the study of the functions of the structures. In addition, the human body has what are called cells which are the smallest independently functioning structure in the body. If an organ such as tissue can be seen with the naked eye. This is defined as macroscopic. However, most cells and cellular structures are microscopic and have to be seen under a microscope. The human body has fifteen body systems for it to function and a name for each medical specialty. They are the Gastrointertestinal ( Gastroenterology), Respiratory (Pulmonology), Cardiovascular (Cardiology), Blood (Hematology and Immunology), Lymphatic (Immunology), Integumentary (Dermatology), Skeletal (Orthopedics), Muscular ( Orthopedics), Nervous (Neurology), Urinary (Urology), Reproductive (male and female) (Male Reproductive Medicine and Gynecology and Obstetrics), Endocrine (Endocrinology), Eyes (Ophthalmology), and Ears, nose, and throat (ENT) (Otolaryngology). In conclusion, in the Medical Profession it is very important to know the functions of the human body. In addition, the human body is an amazing part of Anatomy and Physiology. Understanding all the approaches of how the human body is constructed together provided more of what to be prepared for as a Healthcare Administrator.
