Day To Day Problem
Time management is my number one problem in my professional and personal life. When I get to work I become frustrated when I find out I have to travel over 150 miles a day in every direction. In my personal life I have to deal with time management in order to take care of my kids, do school work, and also have some relaxation time.
I work at a Medical service company and my biggest problem is time management. I love working with the people that I supply medical supplies to but I get frustrated trying to fit this many patients in an allotted amount of time when one might live an hour away from the last patient. So I end up traveling more than helping additional patients. I have over 300 hundred patients. However, I can only see up to 8 patients a day. So I have to make a strategy each day on whom to see.
In order to create this strategy I must look in my great blue book. This book shows everybody that I have to see for the month. Then I will prioritize these patients into directions north, south, east and west. Next I have to organize the directions by towns and the amount of patients in that town. The town with the most patients in that direction is usually the patients I will see that day. This way I can slowly eliminate these patients for the month. Each month I have to start over with a new list and begin again from the beginning. As I get closer to the end of the month and I start to finish my list I will then start working on fixing and cleaning the machines in my shop. This way I will always have clean working equipment to pass out to patients.
Sometimes the time management that I have scheduled will get thrown all out of whack due to emergencies. I then have to put everything on hold for that day to be able take care of the emergency. With emergencies I will also have to do normal deliveries that were scheduled that day. These deliveries will usually consist of oxygen to patients, and equipment such as lift chairs, wheel chairs, power chairs, and hospital beds. So then I have to either reschedule appointments or finish the normally deliveries the same day. Rescheduling is not as easy as it sounds when it comes to medical supplies. Most of my patients have doctor appointments so you really need to keep the allotted time that is given.
When I have to work late due to emergencies, then my time management for my personal life gets all messed up and I have to figure out how to incorporate all the things that need to be done after I get off work. My personal time can also be a headache in itself if the time gets put off.
I have three kids, my daughter is 10, and I have a son that is 8 and another that is 3. I have a wife that works full time and she attends college full time. I also attended college in the evening when I get off work. Time management is important because both I and my wife have to schedule our school work around each other and around the children. In order to accomplish and defeat this every day time problem, I will gather information each day in order to create a strategy for the whole day.
The information that I must gather in my personal day consist of my school work, the kid’s school work, the kid’s schedule, my wife’s schedule and any activities happening around that day. So to overcome this problem every morning I wake up and consult with my wife and kids on what is going on that day. Next I look online to see what I have due for the next day. I also look a few days ahead to see what I have due later on in the week. I try and stay a day ahead of class in case something might come up and I am not able to respond to class that day. All of this is accomplished before my work day begins at 8:30 am.
When I get off of work at my scheduled time, I eat supper; help kids with their school work, then get started on my school work. Helping the kids can take about three hours. Next I do my school work, doing this usually takes about two hours. After I am done with my school work I then can take advantage of very little leisure time. However, it is just enough to keep me going the next day.
Conclusion
Time management is a very important factor in my everyday life. When “time” is messed up my whole day has to be rescheduled. It takes time management in order to get everything done that has to be done that day. Time management is also an important tool that I am proud to say that I am teaching my kids. Some say time is man made, but without it there is never enough time in the day.
