Science_Letter,_Humans_Not_Cause_of_Global_Warming

To Editor, I have thoroughly read through your article and overall it is okay, however there are a few inaccuracies. The anonymous Russian scientist’s theory is commendable, but I need more information, such as; how one event could cause the entire world’s temperature to rise, how there are no manmade factors taken into account, how can mixing up different layers of the atmosphere lead to global warming, could he be biased (as he is from Russia), could his facts be false (as they are secondary, and also, could the warming after the event just be a consequence of the industrial revolution' If you are going to take on such a bold and controversial title such as ‘Global warming is not caused by humans - The Great Global Hoax’ you could at least provide us with more information! Graham East from the Met Advice group’s argument for his theory on global warming is pathetic. His graph which is probably secondary shows that the carbon dioxide levels have risen since 1960. Why doesn’t this study start further back' To gain proper data on the earth you have to study for way longer than 50 years. 50 years in scientific terms is really just scratching the surface. To add to my disappointment, it does not explain how ‘the increase in carbon dioxide is the cause of global warming.’ He just explains that carbon dioxide levels are rising and then suddenly jumps to that conclusion! James Taylor says that ‘clouds of ice high in the atmosphere reflect sunlight. If there are fewer of these clouds then more heat from the sun gets through to the ground. The greenhouse effect then causes global warming.’ This short paragraph requires more information; what would cause there to be fewer clouds of ice' This is just expanding on the greenhouse theory, and the greenhouse theory uses carbon dioxide to trap heat in and the carbon dioxide is caused by humans. But this article is about how global warming is not caused by humans. On a contrary note, carbon dioxide can be released from melting tundra but this makes me think that carbon dioxide is a consequence of global warming. Seems suspicious to me. Climate expert Angela Davies says that: ‘any warming means that the ice caps will melt. More water will evaporate from the sea, resulting in more snow falling on land. This will reflect more energy from the Sun back into space, so there will be more snow.’ This one, like them all, need more information. Where does ‘any warming’ come from' The earths precessional movement' Increased volcanic activity' Increased solar activity' Then it gets to the end of the paragraph and it says: ‘eventually temperatures drop.’ Why' The earth’s precessional movement' Does this movement change the amount of solar energy the earth absorbs' If this is the case, then what takes a small amount of solar energy change and produces a large amount of glaciation' Studies of ice and seabed cores reveal that temperature rise and fall is heavily correlated with changes in greenhouse-gas concentrations. But, heres the thing. Are carbon dioxide rises and falls a cause of climate change or an effect' If they are a cause, what initiates the change' Two anonymous American scientists think that global warming is part of a 100,000 year cycle of temperature swings and is not caused by humans. They used ice cores and ancient snow compacted by newer snow makes its density high but lower than normal ice so it contains air bubbles and from these air bubbles we can tell how much carbon dioxide gas was in the air. From these ice cores we can also tell what temperature it must have been, by looking at how thick each layer of ice is. You do this a similar way you would with a tree. You look at the rings and the width between the rings will tell you the temperature that year. It does agree with Angela’s theory of a cycle of temperature and it also reinforces the fact that either carbon dioxide makes global warming or global warming releases carbon dioxide. Personally I believe that we are going in a cycle and totally agree with Angela’s theory and with more clarification (precession, solar and volcanic activity) it would be close to the truth. Yours Sincerely, Greg Carolan
