OFSTED Unit 11 Task 2C (lo 4.3) WHO ARE OFSTED Ofsted are the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills. They report directly to Parliament and they are independent and impartial. Ofsted inspect and regulate services which care for children and young people, and those providing education and skills for learners of all ages. Every week, Ofsted carry out hundreds of inspections and regulatory visits throughout England, and publish the results on their website. The reports Ofsted obtain can be found on their website (www.ofsted.gov.uk ) The aim of all this work is to promote improvement and value for money in the services we inspect and regulate, so that children and young people, parents and carers, adult learners and employers benefit. Ofsted’s priorities Ofsted’s Values Better outcomes Putting children & learners first Better inspection and regulation Achieve excellence Better public involvement Value people’s differences Better ways of working Behaving with integrity What Ofsted do Ofsted’s team of inspectors, analysts, statisticians and other specialists areas drawn from the former Adult Learning Inspectorate (ALI), the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI), the office of Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Court Administration (HMICA) and the former Office of Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Schools (Ofsted). We are responsible for the regulation and inspection of: * childcare providers * fostering and adoption agencies and children’s homes * the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass) * local authority services for children and young people * all state-maintained and some independent schools * further education providers * initial teacher training * all publicly funded and some privately funded adult education and training, including work-based learning. All of these areas are equally important within the new Ofsted, in the interests of serving children and learners, driving improvement and securing value for money as a publicly funded body. We target our resources where they can make the most difference, so that our inspections are proportionate to the need. Schools, childcare settings, training and other service providers who we believe aren’t doing enough for their users will be visited by our inspectors more often than those who are performing well. OFSTED Unit 11 Task 2C (lo 4.3) When it comes to keeping children and young people safe, all childcare providers, adoption and fostering agencies, children’s homes and residential family centres are regulated by the new Ofsted. We have the authority to investigate concerns and complaints about the service that they offer and to take any necessary action such as closing services down if need be. Doing our best for children, young people and learners is at the heart of what we do. We aim to offer a well-co-ordinated service, in the interests of all our users and stakeholders. What that means is that providers, such as boarding schools, who in the past have received separate visits from two or even three inspectorates, are now inspected by a single team of inspectors.
