Diversity:
Diversity refers to something that is diverse, means that has different kinds or types. Example different languages, culture, religion, colour and background come together in a group is a diverse group.
Equality:
Treating everyone same with equal respect and providing them same opportunities is equality.
Inclusion:
Inclusion is being a part of what everyone is, being welcomed and embraced as a member who belongs. In other words, to make others feel included.
Potential effects of discrimination:
What is discrimination'
When a person is treated less well, in comparison with someone else, because of his or her racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation.
Effects of discrimination:
A child when treated with discrimination at home or work setting faces many educational and social difficulties in life.
Few of them are listed below:
• Violence
• Low self-esteem
• Lack of confidence
• Embarrassment
• Withdrawal
• Feels neglected and scared
• Lack of interest
• Lose identity
• Bullying
• Feels inferior
These outcomes from discrimination might have a long term effects on the child’s social, emotional and educational growth.
Inclusive practice to promote equality and support diversity:
It is very important to have an inclusive practice in your practice which will help the children develop with the positive likelihood towards all the other pupils who are different around him/her.
You can do that by:
• Talking about all the other cultures around to show respect and equality.
• Help the children to see the differences in a positive way as interesting and enriching to all our lives.
While inclusive practice in the classroom setting, a teacher should make sure to offer quality of opportunity to participate, learn and develop. Each child is different and comes from different background; it’s very important for a practitioner to know the different needs and plan the activities that fits the child’s individual needs with “equal concerns”. (Children & young people’s young force level 3)
Note: I was not able to find early years curriculum plans card, so I have been reading on the net and from the book as well, these are my resources for the assignment.
