If anything went wrong or if an incident occurred ask myself “what could I have done to prevent it” and what can I do to prevent it happening again' | 2 Be able to improve own practice. | 2.1 Identify possible development opportunities relevant to improving own practice.Development opportunities can come from within the setting if you are given a mentor who will supervise and advise you on how to keep improving, You may be able to take an adult class from a secondary source, even visit the library and take advantage of the literature on offer to help you develop. | | 2.2 Describe the importance of continuing professional development.Continuing professional development is important because it ensures you continue to be competent in your setting. The more I learn the more I can relay to others. | | 2.5 Review own personal development. It’s important to have a personal development plan. Look at where I am now in my career and write down some goals you hope to achieve e.g. be more assertive, improve my literacy and numeracy skills, finish course work on time, etc. I will check this plan regularly to make sure that I are on track, and If I have not reached the goals I have set try to establish why, and remove any barriers that might be the reason. | | 2.6 Identify new areas of skill and knowledge to achieve new goals and targets.Once goals have been reached, look forward maybe to other courses that may be beneficial to you in your career e.g. higher levels in numeracy, literacy or even become a first aider, make a new list of goals, take pride in achievement and my ability and competence in reaching my goals and my confidence will grow. | 3 Understand the work of the team. | 3.1 Describe why teamwork is important in schools.Teamwork for students is important it helps children work side by side with their peers they will have to collaborate on assignments or projects this will strengthen their social skills. This is what makes a team work. | | 3.4 Describe the importance of respecting the skills and expertise of other practitioners.Always respect and value the skills of others as many of my colleagues will have more experience than me and will be able to give me advice in situations where I need it. This will lead to a better working relationship. | | 4.5 Identify and suggest ways in which the team could improve its work, challenging existing practice where necessary. If a team is being let down for e.g. some team members not giving 100%, routines not running smoothly, taking too long to reach goals that have been set. A team meeting can be arranged where all issues and concerns can be aired and dealt with and solutions found. Challenge is crucial to improving team work. Challenge should not appear to be confrontational or negative. Be confident enough to ask questions, Are some things done in a certain way simply because that is how they have always been done' Remember there is always room for improvement. | | 4.6 Respond to differences of opinion and conflict constructively.Everyone has an opinion and sometimes this may lead to conflict because we will not always agree. To deal with this we must learn to view things from a different perspective, consider others point of view, and listen to their ideas and suggestions. If the conflict escalates speak to the individual respectfully and try to find common ground, know that there should be give and take on both sides and I might not always be right. | | 4.7 Seek advice and support from relevant people when needed.I know that there will be colleagues who have more skills, knowledge and experience than me. I will be confident enough to approach these colleagues to ask for advice in any areas where I need it and I will improve and develop with their support. |
