When most people see a spider, they go crazy and take their shoe off, step on it and kill it. Over half the women in the world have a phobia of spiders, and about ten percent of men have a phobia of spiders (“Tarantula Facts.” Online.). Most people fear spiders because of the fact that just getting bitten by one means you’re getting poison put into your body.
A rose haired tarantula is very different than a regular tarantula. They look very different. Rose hair tarantulas are found in deserts in Bolivia, Argentina, and/or Chile. Some of the Rose-Hairs are more brightly colored than others. They get their name from their hairs. The hair ranges from an orange, gray, to a pinkish red color. Statistics say that these tarantulas are more human friendly than all the other tarantulas, but everyone has their own opinion. They can grow to have a leg span of five to six inches. Each spider’s size will be different. Their size can range from a fingernail up to a dinner plate.
Surprisingly, tarantulas will spend a lot of their time hiding when they are not hunting around looking for prey. A lot of animals try to eat tarantulas, although some of them will not succeed. They are also pretty fast runners! So if they are ever in a case where they might lose to its prey, the spider can run. And if all fails, they can bite, but their venom is used mainly for eating prey, not biting.
Males and female are different. It can be very hard to tell them from each other. Males seem to live for only about five years, while females can live up to twenty years or more. They are known to be one of the most common pet spiders. A male’s leg span seems to be longer than a female, and they are also fuzzier. Females are usually brightly colored. Also, a male will have hooks on his front to legs to use while mating.
Tarantulas are a very easy animal to feed. They have a simple diet. The can eat crickets, mill worms, and roaches. Larger tarantulas can and will eat things such as pinky mice, birds, lizards, and snakes. The tarantula will eat until it’s not hungry anymore. You can never over feed a tarantula. Most tarantulas eat about three to five gut loaded crickets every three to five days. My tarantula eats ten to fifteen crickets every three to five days. Each tarantula is different. They are just like humans. Everyone is different, but we all eat, sleep, and drink the same way. Tarantulas do drink water. Water is one of its main supplies that it needs. If keeping a tarantula in a cage or aquarium, all you have to do is have a wet sponge in it. You will need to wet the sponge every two to three days.
Tarantulas have to have a substrate in the bottom of their home. The substrate can’t just be anything, because the tarantula’s legs are very particular. Sphagnum moss, Orchid barks, Coconut husk, or pure vermiculite works as a perfect substrate. Rose haired tarantulas are from the desert, so they need things around them such as sticks, rocks, or basically anything as long as it’s clean and can’t harm the spider. The main key, though is to keep it simple.
When you walk into your room and see your spider lying upside down, it is likely it’s not dead, but rather it’s molting its skin. One of the most common reasons for this action is it is time to molt. As they go through their existing skin, all tarantulas usually go through the same process by shedding their entire skin, as well as the linings of their mouth, respiratory organs, stomach, and sexual organs. The process starts about two to three weeks before they actually start the “molt”. They'll start by growing a new skin under the old one. Usually the tarantula will not eat two or three days before molting. They also might spin a lot of webs during this period. When they begin the molt, they will lie on the back with legs straight up. Once they shed, their new skin will be very soft and pale. Depending on the size of your spider determines how long it will take for it to fully recover and start back eating and acting its regular way. Smaller spiders usually recover faster than bigger size tarantulas do.
Rose-Haired tarantulas are known for being okay with being handled. The best way to pick one up is by cupping them in your hand with their legs folding under its body. Another simple way is to lay your hand out flat, and force the spider to walk onto your hand. It is very important that before and after you handle it, you wash your hands.
Rose-Haired Tarantulas are able to kill you by their venom' Not true; they do have venom, but it can't kill someone. If the spider bites you, one of two of things will happen. One, nothing will happen, or two, you feel a little bit of pain in the spot, you feel burning, and or itching. They have abdominal hairs that they can flick at you. The hairs can irritate your eyes, face, and nose.
Tarantulas can’t live together. If you do let them do so, you’re going to end up with one spider, or none. They can only be put together when they are ready to mate. They carry their skeletons on the outside. They can't be dropped more than a couple inches. This can split the exoskeleton open if dropped. Some tarantulas can break a leg, but the leg will eventually grow back in its successful molting period.
They have eight legs, and eight eyes. The tarantulas usually don't always depend on their eye-sight, it seems to be not very good. They have two claws, which is what helps them kill. The tarantula will usually tackle, kill and then eat its prey. It eats it prey by sucking the nutrients out that the spider needs, leaving the rest of its prey's body behind.
The beauty of keeping a tarantula is they require very little maintenance at all. Dead insect prey should be removed within twenty-four hours. Spiders make a type of liquid which evaporates over time, but any marks on the tank can be cleaned off very easily. Do not keep destroying the spider’s web. Destroying its web will only stress the spider out. Tarantulas can get mites in their home. The cage needs to be cleaned out at least about every three weeks. When cleaning out the cage use warm water. Do not use chemicals of any kind. Live plants in the cage, are not recommended. It is possible they can have flies and other insect eggs.
Fearing a spider is arachnophobia. Arachnophobia is not only fearing spiders but other animals such as scorpions and other overwhelming animals. Some people can’t stand to live in homes because of the fact of a spider being in their home. They will not go camping, be in the woods, or anything where spiders are more likely to be located.
Tarantulas have some very interesting qualities about them. They will go bald on their thorax when they get old. They have re-tractable claws on their feet, just as cats do. Depending on their environment will determine the spider’s social behavior.
People don't see spiders for what they really are. People see them as scary beasts ready to bite. People do not see tarantulas for what they really are. I used to be one of those people. I was uncomfortable just being in a pet store with a type of spider being in the same room as me. I knew them as the negative way the media portrays them, not who or what they really are. Once I got past listening to everyone and everything else, I opened my eyes to see them for who they really are. I now find tarantulas one of the most interesting things in this world, and I now also am one less person out there killing spiders every time I see one.
