A hopelessly in love Romeo came to the friar and asked if he would wed Juliet to him. Right before Romeo asked the friar, Juliet asked her nurse to help in wedding the two. Both the nurse and the friar replied, “Yes”. I believe that the friar and the nurse agreeing to help Romeo and Juliet get married was irresponsible for the following reasons: Because the nurse and the friar did not believe that these two were really in love; because they knew that the lovers’ parents would never condone this marriage; and because the friar had just agreed to wed them for reasons besides love. Although Romeo and Juliet were convinced that they were in love, the friar and the nurse were both skeptical that this love was true. It was irresponsible for the two adults in trusted positions to help marry the two, while believing that they didn’t love each other and could have potentially ruined their lives by marring them. Also, it was irresponsible to marry the two because they did not inform the parents about this marriage. They married the two even though they knew that the parents would not condone and could have caused a strain between the families and their children. The final reason that marrying the two was irresponsible was that the friar married the two because of selfish causes, not because he believed that they loved each other. The Friar believed that the marriage between the two lovers would end the feud between the Capulates and the Montigues and married the two for this reason. Sometimes what one thinks is the best choice, is far from it. Romeo and Juliet wanted to be wed to each other and I believe that letting the two get married was irresponsible, because neither the friar nor the nurse believed that Romeo and Juliet were in love, because they knew that the parents wouldn’t approve and because the Friar married them for selfish reasons and not love.
