Unit 1 Preparing to teach in the life long sector
Level 3 theory assessment
Describe what your role, responsibilities and boundaries would be as a teacher in terms of the teaching/training cycle.
The teaching training cycle is a system to analyze, organize, plan, deliver, assess and evaluate the learner’s information to make their process an enjoyable and assertive experience. As a teacher I must be aware of my role and boundaries.
Identifying Needs by using different methods to determine the learners limitations or special requirements.
There are a few resources that could help us to do this task:
Application forms
Interviews
Formal and informal assessments
Knowing about the students' learning styles is important to plan the deliver, we could use different questionaries to determine if they are aural, visual, multimodal or kinesthetic then we can plan the deliver according to the students needs making the session enriching and dynamic.
Plan and design
The teacher is responsible to plan and design the sessions creating different activities based in the subject and the course syllabus provided by the centre . The material could be handouts, audiovisual material or internet research.
We should introduce ourselves, the course, the site, health and safety policies. It will be important to introduce the students using ice breaking activities to reduce the first meetings anxiety.
1
Deliver Facilitate
We have to realize that students are individuals to plan the deliver under the equal opportunities' parameters.
We should demonstrate a positive approach using different methods and activities to integrate the students directly in their learning process, be resourceful to overcome any possible limitations and encourage them to reach their maxim potential. (classroom size, disability, learning styles or age).
Assessing
We have to verify the knowledge and skills gained by the students as a result of the delivery, it can be done using assessment materials provided by the centre/assessing body or created by the facilitator.
We may keep records of achievement and feedback to prove that the work was submitted in case of missing data by the learner.
The feedback should be constructive and fair, the centre may assign another facilitator to recheck some of the assessments and keep the records.
Evaluating is a way to find out the results of the teacher’s deliver and the course as a whole to acknowledge our performance and style, then we can tackle weak points to improve our techniques.
We need to keep a diary containing notes of experience that needed action and how we dealt and learnt from it, this information could be used as a reference in case of need.
Boundaries
Teachers must mark boundaries to guaranty the respect, order and assertiveness during the deliver, being aware of the teacher’s position of power would help us to use our common sense to avoid compromising situations that could jeopardize the healthy relationship tutor/student and the learning outcome.
Teachers responsibilities don’t end at the classroom, the teacher role include many other activities such as attending meetings, taking registers, preparing and marking work. They need to be updated of the relevant legislation depending of the teaching subject.
